DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment at Fort Indiantown Gap. You will perform routine repairs and adjustments to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, resolve heating and cooling comfort issues, and change filters. You will also troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and plumbing systems to ensure proper and efficient operations. This role requires the ability to apply knowledge of various trades while prioritizing work and determining proper methods and procedures needed. In addition, you will perform general carpentry work, operate a variety of powered tools and equipment, and assist with snow removal, grass cutting, and other grounds keeping duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must maintain favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Any formal training (high school vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical training program) in a skilled building, electrical, or mechanical trade
  • Experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades (Examples of qualifying trades include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, steamfitting/pipefitting, refrigeration/HVAC, painting, roofing/tinsmith, drywall/plasterer, and automotive mechanic work that includes performing technical duties on motors, engines, and electrical systems.)
  • Experience in commercial carpentry
  • Experience in the plumbing trade
  • Experience working in the electrical trade field
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration and/or HVAC systems
  • Experience in commercial maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • Experience with 3-phase wiring to include emergency generators, Automatic Transfer Switches, switch gears, and 3-phase panels
  • Experience with domestic hot water mixing valves, recirculating loops, aqua stats, and instantaneous water heaters
  • Experience with the provisions of Life Safety Codes and Uniform Construction Code (UCC), as it relates to repairs of buildings
  • Structural experience in the maintenance or repair of buildings
