Production Superintendent - 1st Shift

We are seeking an experienced Production Superintendent to manage the output of the assigned area of the production facility across all shifts of operation, ensuring safety compliance, product quality and on-time production are completed within defined standards.

  • Monitor compliance with established Health and Safety policies and procedures. Take an active role in the elimination of hazardous conditions in developing a safer working environment.
  • Plan and direct daily production activities across assigned shifts and establish priorities in keeping with effective operations and cost factors to meet department goals and company expectations.
  • Coordinate the supervision on all shifts in each production unit.
  • Conduct supervisory staff meetings and prepare to provide feedback to the staff on issues such as manning requirements, production outputs, safety, labor relations, and budgets (as necessary).
  • Work with Human Resource in all efforts to manage absenteeism with the production units.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of assigned employee performance reviews (EPR's) and MBO's.
  • Enforce and support all company's policies and operating procedures.
  • Ensure cross-training matrices are maintained for all assigned areas and shifts, and areas of risks are addressed.
  • Ensure labor is moved within assigned areas to best achieve the production plan. Excess labor should be offered up to other areas of the plant that are short of labour.
  • Along with the Quality Assurance Department, develop and implement process and procedural changes to further enhance the quality of the product produced.
  • Review and maintain manpower levels to meet desired production output while maintaining targeted efficiency.
  • Identify training requirements. Review and develop programs to meet operational requirements both short and long term. Ensure continual development of both staff and employees meet the changing facility needs.
  • Remain current with industry and production technologies to advance the manufacturing process within the facility.
  • Responsible to ensure all key controls (ICFR Internal Controls) identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over Financial Reporting.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and adhered to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety programs.

Requirements

  • Four (4) year college or university program degree or certificate; or six to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years' plant operations experience in a leadership role
  • A proven history of safety results and safety leadership in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and research skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office); relational databases; spreadsheets; and word processing programs. Working knowledge or Oracle or other similar ERP system
