The Center for Integrated Solutions for Infectious Diseases (CISID) is a highly collaborative institute that is committed to taking on infectious disease-focused, patient-relevant research by seamlessly integrating basic research with the clinical endeavor to elucidate the fundamental principles of infection and leverage these insights to transform management of patients with infection. Our center is comprised of academic research labs, Innovation Labs, and Clinical Research Units - led by investigators from the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, MIT, Harvard, Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
CISID is looking for a team-oriented, motivated, and self-driven individual to provide scientific and programmatic support to the center. This individual will supervise research projects related to understanding how bacterial communities interact to cause human disease and how we can use this knowledge to develop new paradigms for treating and diagnosing infection. The individual will also support and manage CISID's scientific programming, developing research initiatives and activities that advance the mission of the center. The position is based at the Broad Institute but will liaise closely with scientific and administrative groups across all the above-named institutions that are associated with CISID.
RESPONSIBILITIES * Coordinates and manages projects comprising of cross-disciplinary team members * Identifies and resolves complex technical and methodological problems * Plans, schedule, and coordinates detailed phases of projects * Contributes to scientific papers, reports, and presentations * May participate in the writing of grant proposals and patent applications * May train, supervise or mentor junior members of a group * Works with the scientific leadership team to create, monitor, and implement the scientific strategy and operations plans for the center * Works closely with both scientific and administrative groups across the institutions associated with CISID to execute or manage research-related materials such as MTAs, IRBs, scientific and financial reports, collaboration agreements, etc. * Maintains the CISID website with updated scientific content * Plans professional development, social events, and educational opportunities for the CISID trainees * Organizes scientific activities and initiatives, such as annual scientific retreats, symposia, and seminar series * Serves as a liaison between research faculty and their trainees, CISID Innovation Labs, and the Clinical Research Units
REQUIREMENTS * PhD in chemical biology, chemistry, biology, or related field with 2+ years of related experience * 4+ years of experience in the field of Infectious Diseases * Strong critical thinking, research, and analytical skills * Superior research skills * Must possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision * Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment * Strong project management skills to support driving initiatives * Excellent communication skills - willing to have difficult conversations to work through conflicts; able to communicate effectively with various levels of scientific expertise ranging from administrative staff to principal investigators; and receptive to feedback and capable of effectively incorporating it to make progress * Strong interpersonal, influencing, and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented environment * Outstanding written communication abilities - for both a scientific and non-scientific audience * Learns new scientific concepts quickly, with minimal guidance required * Excellent balance of people, organizational, and technical skills * Acumen to handle demanding situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands of the group * Ability to deal with highly confidential information * Ability to drive consensus across diverse stakeholders to achieve goals * Ability to anticipate and proactively address issues * Able to work in a fast-paced environment with little oversight
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
