JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Behrend Behrend Housing is seeking an organized and motivated individual dedicated to providing exceptional customer service in our housekeeping department. Job Duties
  • Remove and dispose of all trash and debris from building.
  • Move bags and carts of accumulated linens to linen lockers or to receiving areas for pick-up.
  • Receive, move, sort, store and deliver equipment, furnishings, linen and operational supplies; open cartons, move trunks, suitcases and other items to and from student rooms or storage areas as required.
  • Clean floors and stairs by sweeping, wet and dry mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming, as instructed.
  • Clean carpets using vacuum, as instructed.
  • Clean carpets using vacuum cleaner and rug shampooer. Move furniture and other items to and from receiving storage and/or use areas to allow for cleaning, repairs, transfer, set-up, etc.
  • Assemble and disassemble furniture such as double decker beds, desks, etc.
  • Shovel snow, spread sawdust or calcium and sweep outside buildings as directed.
  • Empty outside trash containers and pick-up litter outside buildings in residence hall area.
  • Clean window wells; keep drains free of litter.
  • Close windows, turn off lights and lock doors.
  • Lock and unlock buildings as directed.
  • Keep equipment clean, polished, and properly stored.
  • Maintain storage areas in a clean condition.
  • Report maintenance problems, unusual conditions, damages and losses to Supervisor.
  • Turn in found items immediately to Supervisor.
  • Substitute as requested for Residence Hall Worker.
  • Lamp and relamp lighting fixtures. (When using ladders employee is restricted to standing on step not over 48 inches above floor surface.).
Requirements and Qualifications
  • May require the ability to work in an outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

  • May require lifting of various items with or without an accommodation.

Pay starts at $14.00 per hour, with opportunities for tenure base and merit increases. This opening may work up to 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible based on successful candidate and can include weekend hours.
