The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The individual will perform complex molecular genetics laboratory procedures to analyze clinical samples; this will require extensive, accurate, and efficient hands-on work. The Laboratory Coordinator will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex instrumentation including, but not limited to, Illumina sequencers, real-time PCR machines, Roche COBAS 5800s, and Qiagen extraction instruments. Attention to detail, strict adherence to protocols, and maintenance of extensive and accurate documentation is required.

Duties will include:



  • Perform nucleic acid extraction, amplification, sequencing, PCR, and other technical tasks as needed.
  • Compile, analyze, and document procedures performed.
  • Follow-up and troubleshoot un-expected data, investigate non-conformities and notify supervisor/manager of instrument malfunctions or assay performance concerns.
  • Sample receiving, processing, data entry.
  • Interact with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers on issues related to testing performed by the laboratory.
  • Maintain accurate and extensive documentation in accordance with internal and external regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain inventory, request orders as needed and verify receipt and storage.
  • Develop or assist in the development and validation of clinical assays and generate the corresponding documentation of recommendations and findings.
  • Attend continuing education, safety, and compliance training as necessary.
  • The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned and as needed by the laboratory including, but not limited to, sample storage, sample accessioning and sample storage.


Responsibilities



  • 70% - Perform existing technical assays
  • 10% - Validating new assays
  • 10% - Troubleshooting technical problems
  • 5% - Quality assurance, management, and improvement
  • 5% - Other administrative/technical tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required.
  • The candidate must be licensed or license eligible to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist according to New York State licensure requirements. Continued employment will require obtaining a license through the full laboratory technologist or restricted (Molecular) laboratory technologist license pathway.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with Illumina NGS platforms.
  • Experience with assay development and validation.
  • Master's degree in biology/related field plus 4 years of related experience.


Other Requirements



  • Requires strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment in order to meet strict deadlines.
