Scope of Work

The individual in this position is responsible for managing the clinical direction of the cancer health and transplant pharmacy service lines. Responsibilities include management of clinical specialists in the acute care and ambulatory cancer health and transplant locations, validation of Beacon builds to support the clinical care of these patients, identification and implementation of financial stewardship initiatives, collaborating with providers to ensure appropriate clinical pharmacy care, and providing direct patient care to patients in these service lines.

Essential Functions

  • Provides appropriate supervision and direction to pharmacists, technicians, residents, interns, and other support personnel.

  • Responsible for human capital issues involving supervised team members; to include but not limited to, hiring, mentoring, development, evaluations, and performance management.

  • Develops and maintains standards for area of accountability and communicates those standards to the staff.

  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Corewell Health specific requirements on a timely basis.

  • Provides education and counseling to patients / family / significant others / members of the health care team in order to optimize outcomes and appropriate use of medications.

  • Participates in the scheduling of pharmacy staff including but not limited to schedule development, completion of daily assignments and/or staffing changes for sick/call-in coverage.

  • Participates in process improvement activities. Continuously monitors quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency in area of accountability and identifies trends. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation / compliance requirements.

  • Provides support for patient care treatment and services. Consults on drug therapy, drug regimen reviews, and drug utilization reviews. Consults on research projects and other matters related to pharmacology.

Qualifications

    • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy.

    • 2 years of relevant experience Required

    • 1 year of relevant experience Skills, knowledge, abilities gained through at least 1 year of related lead or supervisory experience Preferred

    • LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - State of Michigan 90 Days required And

    • LIC-Pharmacist Controlled Substance - State of Michigan 90 Days required

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Variable by department 90 Days required Or

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Variable by department 90 Days required Or

    • Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) - AHA American Heart Association Variable by department 180 Days required Or

    • Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association Variable by department 180 Days required
