Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. We are seeking candidates for a Veterinary Assistant position working with the Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) service and the BREATHE Clinic. The BREATHE Clinic is a specialty clinic within the Small Animal Internal Medicine service that focuses on Respiratory and Aerodigestive disorders. This position's primary responsibility will be to provide support to the SAIM service but will also support the BREATHE clinic.

The primary duties for this position will include:

  • Record information and upkeep records in the electronic medical record system.
  • Enter test orders and document appropriate charges.
  • Assist with animal (canine and feline) restraint for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness, stock and order supplies, and set-up procedures and clinic rooms.
  • Submit diagnostic requests and deliver diagnostic samples.
  • Communicate with clients and referring veterinarians regarding pre-appointment information and records, procedure aftercare, post-appointment follow-up, and appointment scheduling.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position may serve as a stepping-stone for candidates interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine (e.g., prior to applying to school to become a registered veterinary technician or veterinarian) and may include opportunities to attend clinic rounds and observe a variety of imaging and endoscopic procedures. Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

Shift

Full-time (40 hours per week) with typical hours being Monday through Friday, between 8a and 5p.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a veterinary medical setting is desirable but not required.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary: $16.00 per hour
Grade: GGS-004
