Senior State & Local Tax Accountant - Hartford, CT Office

In this position you will prepare, review, approve, and pay state and local tax compliance for HSB Group and its U.S. affiliates in a timely manner. This includes but is not limited to sales and use, property, municipal, insurance premium, surcharge, and guaranty fund. Assist manager with inquiries from tax authorities as well as internal and external tax audits. Performs general ledger account reconciliations. Independently performs ad hoc tax research and analysis to stay current on new and revised tax law.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 5+ years experience within the insurance industry alongside indirect tax laws, regulations, and proven experience managing complex indirect tax issues and audits.
  • 3+ years experience in a tax management role demonstrating leadership responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of electronic tax research services.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to maintain thorough support documentation.
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to evaluate data.
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines with strict time parameters.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience with SALT software (Vertex, Avalara, TriTech Premium Pro/Stratus, OneSource).
  • Experience with ERPs and billing platforms (PeopleSoft, D365, SAP BO, Shopify, Chargebee).
  • Excellent communication and literacy skills.
