Job Description

General Summary:

Vertex is seeking to hire an Associate Director, Global Pain Market Research to join the North America Forecasting, Analytics and Insights team. The Associate Director will be responsible for overseeing and delivering commercial insights to inform strategic choices and commercialization decisions for the Pain Global Commercial Strategy (GCS) team.

This Global Marketing Science role serves as a strategic partner in shaping portfolio-level decisions by delivering robust research and analytics that build confidence in strategic planning. This position plays a critical role in driving evidence-based insights that support commercial objectives across multiple geographies. Acting as a key advisor to the Global Commercial Team and cross-functional stakeholders (Market Access, HEOR, RWE, Communications, Legal), the role provides objective insights grounded in external market data to inform critical business strategies and drive alignment across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with GCS stakeholders to formulate a comprehensive insights generation plan to address a spectrum of business questions using appropriate methodology, ensuring strategic decisions are informed by robust evidence

  • Lead cross-functional analytics forum (HEOR, Data Science, RWE) to align on data standards, prevent duplication, and deliver a unified market view to leadership

  • Independently design and execute primary market research to generate actionable insights that directly influence global commercial strategies and brand positioning

  • Define data analytics requirements and oversee execution to ensure timely, accurate answers to ongoing business questions, driving operational efficiency and informed decision-making

  • Develop the annual situation analysis for the Brand Planning process, providing a clear, evidence-based foundation for strategic planning and resource allocation

  • Maintain a current summary of all insights supporting a disease area in the form of an Insights Book, serving as a centralized resource that enhances organizational knowledge and accelerates decision-making

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Depth of expertise in primary market research methodologies, with substantial experience managing the design and execution of complex research projects to generate actionable insights

  • Strong quantitative analysis capabilities, including experience conducting analyses independently, partnering with advanced analytics professionals, and interpreting results to inform strategic decisions

  • Domain knowledge of real-world data sources (e.g., large-scale open or closed insurance claims, EHR) and/or related provider and health system data

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and distill complex information into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences

  • Proactive orientation, demonstrating the ability to anticipate issues, engage stakeholders early, and plan effectively to mitigate risks and optimize outcomes

  • Exceptional collaboration and influence skills, able to align cross-functional stakeholders, ensure diverse perspectives are heard, and drive consensus to deliver a unified, strategic view for program decisions

  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted advisor and thought partner, building credibility and fostering strong relationships with senior stakeholders

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, with the ability to structure complex problems, define solution approaches, and adapt strategies in dynamic environments

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline

  • Typically requires 8 or more years in bio-pharma marketing, market research and/or analytics, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range:

$157,800 - $236,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
