Job Description:

The Casual - Spanish Translator is responsible for providing written translations into Spanish for a variety of essential district and school documents. The Translator will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including representatives from central office departments, offices, and schools to enhance communication with parents and the public. The Translator will work on a temporary, hourly basis, with no minimum number of hours of work guaranteed. The Translator will have a high level of knowledge about the field of translation, and experience working specifically with educational terminology. This casual position will report to the Language Access Manager.



Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree is required.


  • Certifications/Licenses: None Required. All applicants will be required to pass the assessment test before the recommendation to hire


  • Experience/Skills:



    • Knowledge and understanding of the school division's culturally and linguistically diverse community
    • Superior level of written fluency in English and the target language, and exceptional grammar skills.
    • Well-developed skills in spelling, punctuation, syntax, grammar of academic English and the Spanish
    • Ability to translate to and from English and the target language without altering the original meaning and intent, and in a variety of educational settings.
    • Recent experience using education-specific terminology and acronyms, including those in specific fields such as English Learner and Special Education
    • Familiarity with laws, policies, programs, and operating procedures found in K-12 educational systems
    • Demonstrate appropriate professional appearance and demeanor as representatives of Alexandria City Public Schools
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Strong interpersonal relationship skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders Knowledge of the latest research and practices in the field of translation
    • Knowledge of Trados translation software



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional translation services to ACPS to facilitate language access for parents in schools and offices
  • Ensure that services are of the highest quality, and equivalent to the communication provided in English
  • Work collaboratively with the ACPS Language Access Manager and with other ACPS departments, offices, and schools
  • Performs other duties as required


Clearances:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
