Summary
Provides genetic education, counseling, and support to patients and/or families who have genetic disorders, birth defects, or who may be at risk for inherited conditions. Serves across the organization in several specialty clinics including general genetics clinic, metabolic clinic, bone marrow transplant clinic, cystic fibrosis clinic, hearing loss clinic, maternal fetal medicine, neurofibromatosis clinic, disorders of sexual development clinic, and more.
Essential Functions
Evaluate the evidence for gene-disease associations
Collaborates and coordinates patient care with other disciplines and medical specialties
Assesses individual or family risk for a variety of inherited conditions, such as genetic disorders and birth defects.
Assist in development of patient consents, GC protocols, SOPs, and patient education materials.
Provide an accurate risk assessment based on data obtained.
Responds to relevant inquiries from patients, staff and physicians.
Performs other duties as assigned

Education

Master's Degree Genetic Counseling required

Licenses and Credentials

Genetic Counselor [State License] required

Experience

genetics experience 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong patient/customer service skills.

Good documentation and organizational skills and good attention to detail.

Ability to adhere to detailed survey research protocols.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Strong understanding of molecular genetics and general chemistry.

Good attention to detail and analytical.
