Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides direct occupational therapy services to individuals who are blind or have low vision, primarily in a clinic-based setting at NewView's Tulsa location. The OT conducts comprehensive evaluations, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and delivers skilled interventions focused on daily living skills, low vision rehabilitation, and functional independence.

This role includes limited in-home and community-based evaluations and services, as clinically appropriate, as well as occasional statewide travel to support agency, programmatic, or interdisciplinary needs. The OT provides required clinical oversight of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), including review and approval of plans of care and documentation, and completes routine administrative and billing-related responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, primarily clinic-based, with occasional in-home or community evaluations as clinically indicated.
  2. Develop, implement, and update individualized, evidence-based plans of care aligned with client goals, clinical findings, and funding requirements.
  3. Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions focused on activities of daily living, low vision rehabilitation, compensatory strategies, environmental modifications, and safety training.
  4. Recommend and train clients in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and low vision devices to support functional independence.
  5. Provide clinical supervision and oversight of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), including review and approval of treatment plans, progress notes, and documentation.
  6. Ensure services delivered by COTAs meet professional standards, licensure requirements, payer guidelines, and organizational expectations.
  7. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record.
  8. Complete weekly billing for OT services and support accurate claims submission across multiple funding sources.
  9. Perform routine administrative duties related to scheduling coordination, service tracking, reporting, and documentation review.
  10. Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, rehabilitation professionals, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, client-centered care.
  11. Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and team meetings.
  12. Support program improvement initiatives, curriculum refinement, and special projects as assigned.
  13. Provide or support clinical supervision of OT interns or fieldwork students as assigned.
  14. Maintain professional competency and stay current with best practices in low vision rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
  15. Adhere to all organizational and departmental safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  16. Comply with all NewView Oklahoma policies and professional requirements.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Licensure, Certification:

  • Licensed and Board-Certified Occupational Therapist in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Experience providing clinical OT services; experience with COTA oversight and documentation review.
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or have low vision, or willingness to obtain specialized training in low vision rehabilitation. (preferred but not required)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally statewide to support agency and programmatic needs.

Physical requirements of the job:

  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force

frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
