The Project Manager delivers superb customer service while seamlessly executing administrative tasks to ensure clients' analytical needs are met in a timely fashion. The position requires coordination with multiple internal departments and serving as a liaison between GEL and both prospective and existing clients in need of analytical services. Similar to an inside sales representative, the Project Manager handles existing orders while exploring new business opportunities. Industries served include DOE, DOD, radiopharmaceuticals, Nuclear Power (NP), nuclear waste management, local heavy industry, engineering firms, and municipal clients. The Project Manager will be responsible for:



  • Demonstrating and supporting GEL's Core Values
  • Managing several million dollars in annual revenues from clients that require ongoing levels of excellent customer service.
  • Coordinating sample collection and container requests, verifying login to the client, and communicating special needs, and associated problems with the Division Directors, Group -Leaders, analysts, login team, and support groups.
  • Initiating project startup in coordination with the contracts group, Client Services Manager and Division Directors. Project startup includes thorough review of the project contract, and documentation/communication of contract requirements to sample receiving, laboratory, data packaging, EDD group, accounting, waste management and any other areas of the company that may be involved in the administration of the contract.
  • Project setup and validation to ensure all client specific requirements are communicated to each area of the laboratory.
  • Monitoring a multitude of projects as they progress through the lab. Verifying company's ability to meet performance requirements (on-time delivery, complete data package, compliant EDD, etc.) and communicating changes or concerns to clients as needed.
  • Managing all deliverables prepared for the client, including data package, preliminary results, EDD, invoices, and monthly performance reports. Responsible for ensuring product completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of these deliverables.
  • Preparing administrative case narrative and technical cover letters for data packages.
  • Maintaining high levels of responsiveness at all times; returning all e-mails and phone calls within two hours of receiving messages from clients.
  • Preparing invoices for submittal to clients and assisting accounting with collection of receivables.
  • Providing back-up coverage for other Project Managers as necessary

Qualifications for a Project Manager:



  • Bachelor of Science degree (preferably in Chemistry, Biology, or related science degree) or Bachelor of Business Administration / Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree
  • At least one year of experience in a similar field, preferably three years of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, prefer Laboratory Information Management System experience as well.



Knowledge Requirements for a Project Manager:



  • Basic knowledge of environmental laboratory methods and processes, along with basic math and science knowledge.
  • Data evaluation, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Exhibits organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Provides excellent customer service as displayed by clear written and verbal communication.



Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

Work is performed in a combination of office, conference, laboratory, and client site environments. The role involves regular presence in laboratory areas with exposure to chemicals, fumes, gases, and odors typical of an analytical laboratory setting. Employees must be able to use standard office and laboratory equipment and maintain the stamina required to sit or stand for extended periods. The position requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds and frequently handle up to 10 pounds.
