The Construction Engineering Services Practice is seeking a Construction Inspector in Portland, OR.

In this position you will provide on-site construction inspection and applicable documentation for transportation projects. This includes observation of construction work activities for compliance with plans and specifications, preparation of required contract documentation, and following prescribed Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures consistent with State and Local guidelines.

What You'll Do Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, perform, and/or supervise technical engineering work in the field or office.
  • Inspect, observe and ensure a construction project is constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the work (labor, equipment, materials, quantities).
  • Identify contract changes and assist in preparation of change orders.
  • Communicate effectively with the Contractors, Owners, Construction Manager, Project Documentation Engineer, or other field engineering staff.
  • Prepare field note records for progress payments.
  • Coordinate for required materials sampling and testing
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
  • Typically possesses 10 or more years of progressive experience in construction inspection, including responsibility for complex projects and oversight of construction activities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard office and reporting tools, including Microsoft Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and tracking of construction issues.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with client representatives, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public, while also providing guidance and direction to junior inspection staff as needed.
  • Highly self-directed professional capable of operating independently with minimal supervision and exercising sound judgment in the field.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple inspection activities simultaneously, prioritize issues, and track construction deficiencies through resolution.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, required for field assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • General contracting experience
  • ODOT project experience
  • ODOT Inspector Certifications
  • Experience inspecting Federally funded projects
  • Construction material sampling experience
