Job Description

Funded by a $752,096 annual grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the University of Missouri-Columbia's TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program serves 670 eligible undergraduate participants each year. Designed to support first-generation, low-income, and/or students with documented disabilities achieve academic success, MU's TRiO SSS Program offers holistic services aimed at supporting participants in making a successful transition into MU and in strategically using their time at MU to advance their academic, career, and personal goals.

Duties:
Provide individual financial coaching sessions to SSS Participants on topics like personal and household budgeting, credit principles, financial planning and economic decision making, filing taxes, and cost planning and searching for public and private scholarships and other forms of financial assistance for postsecondary and postbaccalaureate education.

Track and monitor financial holds and flags, and intervene when needed.

Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of every student interaction, including in-person, phone, and online visits.

Serve on appropriate committees and represent TRiO at events, as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Shift

Flexible hours with occasional evening and weekend events

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in personal financial planning, consumer and family economics, or a related field.

Minimum of one year of experience from which knowledge and skills related to the work of the position could be acquired.

Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) certification in good standing from the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.

Experience as a participant in a pre-college or college TRiO Project.

Prior experience working for a TRiO Project or providing financial counseling or education to first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and/or students with disabilities.

Demonstrated ability to relate to and the desire to work with first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and/or students with disabilities.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $25.44 - $40 hourly, commensurate with education and experience

Grade: GGS-9E
