Job Description:

AMA is seeking a Science Lead for the EarthRISE workforce leadership team, located at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, to support project management efforts across geographically disbursed locations through the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract. Part of NASA Earth Action, EarthRISE workforce activities address environmental and public policy issues through interdisciplinary research projects that apply the lens of NASA Earth observations to domestic community concerns. AMA provides direct science support and science and technical coordination to EarthRISE workforce activities.

The Science Lead will work in a collaborative team environment with a multi-level communication framework between co-located leadership team members, geographically distributed Project Coordinators, and potential and current partner organizations. The Science Lead will be responsible for the overall success of 10-week multi-project terms, including but not limited to: overseeing Project Coordinators at each location, ensuring individual projects are progressing to meet schedule and quality expectations, and serving as the primary science editor for all project deliverables. This position will oversee the project process (from proposal through execution and hand-off of deliverables) and communicate, coordinate, and engage with partners from initial contact through the hand-off. The Science Lead will plan and organize project presentation activities to deliver research results at diverse forums, relevant conferences, and through publications. The Science Lead will also support the interview and selection process for the EarthRISE workforce activities. Occasional travel is required.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000 commute with education and experience.

Requirements

  • Selected candidate will work onsite at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA

  • Bachelor's Degree in Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, or Geography

  • 2 or more years of experience designing, conducting, and coordinating applied research projects that utilize satellite imagery and geospatial data in the field of Earth and environmental sciences

  • Ability to manage multiple small teams to effectively conduct scientific research projects and demonstrate meaningful results

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail; strong oral and written communication abilities as demonstrated by editing, proofreading, and writing skills; and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse team members or in multidiscipline collaborations
