The position will apply engineering or geology skills to a variety of projects involving landfills, transfer stations, surface impoundments, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, solid waste planning, and other solid waste management systems while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Civil design, landfill design, stormwater design, and site layout.
  • Landfill postclosure operation, redevelopment and regulatory compliance.
  • Engineering analyses such as slope stability, seismic deformations, settlement, leachate generation and seepage.
  • Engineering analyses for the design and implementation of geosynthetics such as geocomposite drainage, veneer stability, filtration, puncture protection, and leakage.
  • Preparation of permit applications, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork associated with geotechnical investigation, design and construction services.
  • Mid-size project/task management.
  • Understanding of local, state and federal regulations related to solid waste.
  • Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.
  • Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on staff mentoring tasks.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, geologic or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or the ability to obtain P.E. registration within 1 year. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated strong interest in solid waste. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as HELP model, RUSLE2, and Slope/W (or equivalent software). (required)
  • Experience with landfill construction quality assurance programs and oversight (preferred)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AutoCAD, Vadose/W, and Sigma/W (or equivalent software). (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel. (required)
  • Ability to lead field and office tasks with senior support, as required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $97,255 / Maximum Salary: $126,430 (San Diego)
