Responsibilities
- Work at thecutting-edge ofquantum computing, designingalgorithms andapplications for fault-tolerantquantumcomputers.
- Develop and applyadvanced toolsetsfor modeling quantumapplications on a variety of hardware architectures,determiningthe quantum resources needed to execute them.
- Develop and apply new techniques for application- and architecture-aware quantum circuit compilation and optimization.
- Teamwith world-class engineers, researchers, architects, and leaders, contributing to your career growth.
- Drive cross-group collaboration within Microsoft Quantum's qubit modeling, quantum error correction, and quantum applications teams.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in Computer Science,Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences,Software Engineering, or related field AND1+years experience, includingresearch and/ordevelopmentofcommercial software,compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-componentsystems
- ORmaster's degree inComputer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related fieldAND3+years experience, includingresearch and/or developmentof commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-componentsystems
- ORbachelor'sdegree inComputer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related fieldAND4+years experience, includingresearch and/or developmentof commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-componentsystems
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+years of experiencein one or more of the following areas: high-performance computing, quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, quantum simulation.
- 4+ years of experience in a collaborative environment with demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations, with strong communicationand leadership skills.

- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- Ability to apply AI to accelerate engineeringwhile developing shipping & prototype code.
- Ability to evaluate agentic solutions with measurable metrics and human-in-the-loop safeguards following Microsoft Responsible AI requirements for generative AI.
- Ability toleverageAI tools to drive innovation and efficiency (e.g., performance modeling and analysis, research gathering,day to daytask automation).
Additional Qualifications
- Experience developingandimplementing algorithmsfor quantum applications, preferablyfor fault-tolerant quantum systems.
- Experience with high-performance classical computing methods.
- Skills in applied mathematics or related disciplines.

Quantum Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
