Position Summary:
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer I is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving Ardelyx's hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure. This role requires strong hands-on engineering expertise, a high degree of operational ownership, and the ability to lead technical execution while mentoring junior engineers.
This position focuses on automation-first operations, reliability, and scale. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer I plays a key role in reducing manual effort, improving service quality, and enabling the broader IT organization through tooling, standards, and technical guidance. While influential in technical decisions, this role does not own enterprise-wide architecture or long-term platform strategy, which is handled at the Senior Infrastructure Engineer II level.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor junior staff by guiding them in automating routine IT operations and reducing manual, repetitive work
  • Design, develop, and standardize automation solutions (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for patching, provisioning, monitoring, remediation, and configuration management
  • Establish best practices, reusable scripts, and runbooks that junior staff can follow to execute infrastructure tasks consistently and safely
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud and on-prem infrastructure for availability, performance, and reliability issues; drive automated detection and remediation where possible
  • Improve infrastructure performance, scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency through automation-first design and continuous optimization
  • Own patching, lifecycle management, and configuration baselines, leveraging automation to ensure compliance and consistency across environments
  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to automate vulnerability remediation workflows, including emergency fixes and compensating controls
  • Contribute to monitoring, alerting, and observability practices with a focus on reducing MTTD/MTTR through automation and self-healing mechanisms
  • Participate in Change Management activities, ensuring automated changes are tested, documented, and validated post-implementation
  • Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point and technical role model, coaching junior engineers during incidents and complex infrastructure changes
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 6 - 8+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering or systems engineering experience or equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications preferred (Microsoft, VMware, AWS, Azure, Cisco, FortiNet, PaloAlto, etc.)
  • Strong operational ownership of on-prem, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure
  • Proven experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, and core networking
  • Hands-on scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash)
  • Experience participating in incident, change, and problem management
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical issues and mentor junior staff
  • Strong documentation and cross-team communication skills
Location:
Waltham, Massachusetts
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $135,000 - $165,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
