What to Expect

Tesla's Field Reliability Engineering team is on a mission to enhance the customer experience by identifying and resolving field issues. Collaborating with a wide range of engineering teams, this group analyzes millions of service and repair records to uncover actionable insights and improve Tesla's products.

The Field Reliability team builds robust data infrastructure, ETL pipelines, and applications to empower cross-functional teams with actionable data. As a Data Engineer, you will leverage big-data analytics to transform raw data into meaningful visualizations and tools. Your work will drive improvements in vehicle reliability and customer satisfaction.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop advanced analytics tools using platforms such as Splunk, Spark, and Python within a Kubernetes environment. Based in Sunnyvale, CA, this role will shape the data powering Tesla's reliability efforts.


What You'll Do
  • Analyze service and vehicle data to extract actionable insights, identify field failure trends, and drive product improvements
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL pipelines and CI/CD workflows for data processing and analysis
  • Build and enhance applications and tools leveraging Splunk, Spark, Python, and Kubernetes
  • Create dashboards and visualizations using Tableau, Matplotlib, or Plotly to communicate trends and findings effectively
  • Conduct statistical analyses to quantify reliability risks and detect emerging trends
  • Support and troubleshoot application-level issues to ensure robust system performance
  • Maintain and improve data systems, pipelines, and dashboards in response to business needs and drive continuous improvements

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years working with advanced data analysis tools
  • 2+ years with Python, Splunk, Spark, and SQL. Advanced Spark API experience preferred
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, Matplotlib, Plotly)
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis techniques, including reliability statistics (Weibull Analysis preferred)
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD processes
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver impactful solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for data and data-driven decision-making

    Expected Compensation
    $100,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
