Position Title: Head Football Equipment ManagerCompensation: $18.45 - 20.34Department: Football_AStart Date: 02/16/2026About this opportunity: Ball State University offers the opportunity to serve in a highly visible, mission-critical role within a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision program competing in the Mid-American Conference. The Head Football Equipment Manager provides leadership for the daily operations of football equipment and apparel, including purchasing, fiscal oversight, vendor management, and comprehensive inventory control. This position works collaboratively with coaches, staff, and student-athletes to support a first-class student-athlete experience, while directly supervising student employees and ensuring operational excellence, accountability, and compliance with University policies and procedures.Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the United States without employer sponsorship. What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Supervise and oversee the purchase and fiscal control of game and sports equipment and apparel for Football. Research vendor products and make equipment and apparel recommendations. Manage vendor relationships and serve as the main contact for all purchases. Oversee equipment inventory, distribution and related tax reporting. Directly supervise staff and student employees. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the equipment facility for Football to include supervision of student employees. Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations as to interviewing and selection, performance, appraisal, and discipline. Make staffing decisions and assignments for football events. 2. Properly fit player all player equipment to meet safety standards and (AEMA) Athletic Equipment Manager's Association and National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment expectations, including safety standards and equipment updates throughout the year. 3. Operation and maintenance of Coach Comm. which ensures proper communication during peak sporting events permitting effective communication between players, staff and coaches during events, including testing and troubleshooting. 4. Develop and have oversight of annual equipment budget for Football. 5. Manage the processes for the issue, retrieval, storage, repair, maintenance, reconditioning, and inventory control of all equipment, apparel, coaching aids, and field equipment for assigned sports. Consult with the Office of the Controller regarding tax ability status of apparel and equipment and develop annual reports. 6. Monitor and maintain inventory management system for equipment and apparel. Forecast long term equipment and apparel needs to include developing budget proposals for the purchase of items. Work with purchasing to select appropriate vendors. 7. Coordinate equipment needs and appropriate transportation as needed for away events, including but not limited to identifying appropriate equipment and apparel, packing, delivery, and return of equipment and apparel to campus. 8. Attend regularly scheduled staff and team meetings, team functions and events as requested by the Head Football Coach or Director of Football Operations. 9. Maintain, organize and setup headsets for all practices, scrimmages and games, both home and away; attend workshops and educational sessions to stay current on the operation of the headsets. 10. Maintain positive relationship with various public, e.g. visiting coaches and teams. 11. Assist in game management for all football events; includes accommodation of game officials, support of personnel and/or field personnel required to conduct games. 12. Serve as liaison to Nike/BSNSports, related to bids/purchases, issuance, fitting, return of equipment and related items; issue charge notices for lost or stolen apparel and equipment. 13. Work with the Head Football Coach and Director of Football Operations to assist with recruiting efforts; includes but is not limited to display of team equipment and uniforms and meeting with recruits and their parents on official and unofficial visits. 14. Ensure compliance with department, university, conference andNCAApolicies and procedures with respect to the purchase and distribution of equipment and apparel. 15. Plan, manage and coordinate the issuance and return of gear associated with community team events including Fan Jam, community service, school visits, hospital visits etc. 16.
