BSOM faculty of East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine. The position will be a part-time (up to .50
FTE/up to 50%) reassignment of time for a Brody School of Medicine faculty member.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of
UME, the Director of Foundational Clinical Experience (MS1-MS2) will lead a two-year clinical course that gives students early, structured exposure to patient care. The Director of Foundational Clinical Experience (MS1-MS2) will oversee curriculum design, faculty development, student assessment, and site coordination. The Director of Foundational Clinical Experience (MS1-MS2) will ensure the experience meets school and accreditation standards and prepares learners for clerkships.
Job Duties :
Curriculum and Course Oversight
* Maintain the course syllabus and learning objectives.
* Align weekly activities with foundational science content.
* Build session guides, assessment tools, and reflection exercises.
* Review and update required experiences each year based on student performance data.
* Create schedules, assign students to clinical sites, and manage preceptor capacity.
* Work with the clerkship team to maintain compliance with school and accreditation requirements.
* Coordinate site agreements, onboarding, and orientation with the Office of Clinical Education.
* Track student attendance and completion of required experiences.
* Promote a positive learning environment at all sites.
* Address concerns related to professionalism, safety, or mistreatment.
* Serve as the first point of contact for students and faculty regarding course issues.
* Collect and review student evaluations, faculty feedback, and performance metrics.
* Lead an annual course evaluation process and produce an improvement plan.
* Partner with basic science course directors to connect clinical experiences with curricular content.
* Work with simulation, clinical skills, and foundations of doctoring leadership to support early skills training.
* Collaborate with interprofessional education programs to include team-based activities when appropriate.
* Work with curriculum leadership to integrate updates into the broader program.
* Regular meetings with course faculty and the Office of Medical Education team.
* Review student assessments at each checkpoint.
* Provide timely narrative feedback and complete grade submissions.
* Attend required clerkship director meetings and school-wide curriculum committees.
Faculty Recruitment and Development
* Recruit, orient, and support faculty preceptors.
* Provide short faculty development sessions on observation, feedback, and narrative assessment.
* Monitor faculty performance through student evaluations and coaching conversations.
* Develops processes, policies, and procedures as necessary to ensure compliance and that standards are exceeding national accreditation requirements in all aspects of assessment and evaluation.
* Ensures all policies related to assessment and evaluation are up to date.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education.
