Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Practice Leader - Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is responsible for securing, managing, and delivering profitable SUE projects. This role provides leadership in staff development, project execution, business operations, and client relations while ensuring financial performance and operational excellence within the practice. This role will lead and manage the local team in Tampa, Florida.

The ideal candidate will haev the following qualifcations:

    Minimum of 10+ years of experience managing contracts, fee estimation, project setup, and execution.

  • Knowledge of the ASCE Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data (ASCE 38-02 and 38-22) is preferred but not required.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.

  • Highly self-motivated, dynamic professional with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication, supervisory, and mentoring skills.

Leadership & Management
  • Serve as Practice Leader for the designated discipline.

  • Provide technical oversight and leadership for projects and staff.

  • Responsible for staff development, mentoring, and performance.

  • Complete annual individual training programs and other assigned duties.
Project Management & Delivery
  • Serve as Project Manager on select projects.

  • Oversee project execution to ensure quality, schedule, and budget compliance.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews of project and task deliverables.

  • Work closely with CAD and Survey staff to complete project deliverables.

  • Provide monthly project updates to project analysts.

  • Submit monthly WIP/AR commentary to the Operations Manager.

  • Negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and complex projects.

Business Development & Client Relations
  • Secure and deliver profitable SUE projects.

  • Assist with sales activities and proposal development.

  • Prepare technical and fee proposals.

  • Establish and maintain long-term relationships with strategic clients.

  • Regularly interface with existing and prospective clients to secure new work.

  • Share project and client leads with other Regional Practice Leaders to support growth across regions.

Financial & Operational Oversight
  • Participate in quarterly reviews and monthly operating meetings.

  • Set, monitor, and achieve financial performance goals for the practice.

  • Analyze backlog, staffing, resources, and sales to determine priorities.

  • Coordinate with the Regional Practice Leader to secure required resources and equipment.

  • Oversee business operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and procedures.



Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 7 years of related professional experience, or 11 years of equivalent professional experience.
* Progressive professional and increasing project management and organizational management experience.
* Proven experience in project management roles within the technical practice.
* Demonstrated leadership capability to build and lead teams of technical practitioners and/or project managers.
* Strong interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets, project margins, and cash flow.
* Experience in business development, with a focus on maximizing client relationships and identifying growth opportunities.
* Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the Practice.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions.
* Adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Proficiency in relevant software and tools use in the practice area.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to the service line.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
* Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Training within six months of start date.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred:
* Professional license or certification within the field of expertise preferred.
