DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector, you will be responsible for administering Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services (BAHDS) programs and legislatively mandated laws and regulations within your assigned county locations. You will work in collaboration with bureau leadership to support the overall mission to protect Pennsylvania's animal agriculture by preventing, detecting, and eradicating dangerous transmissible animal diseases (DTDs), promoting biosecurity and animal health programs, and ensuring compliance with animal health laws and regulations.
Specific duties involve conducting inspections of regulated entities, documenting findings, and initiating follow-up actions to address deficiencies as necessary. Inspections may include
animal health reviews, collecting samples for testing, verifying sanitation and biosecurity measures, verifying standards for disease mitigation are in place, verifying licensures, and ensuring relevant health certifications and testing requirements are met. You will also perform investigations related to DTDs and violations of laws and regulations administered by BAHDS. Other primary areas of focus include conducting outreach to agricultural communities and engaging in animal health emergency response efforts.

- Temporary, full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is home headquartered for Adams, Berks, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union, and York County. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
- If the selected candidate does not reside in one of the home headquartered counties, the Commonwealth vehicle will be stored at a location in one of the counties listed above. The reporting location will be determined during the hiring process.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
- A bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.
Other Requirements:
