Position Summary

Our Quick Coupling Division is looking for a Material Supervisor to manage the direction and daily activities of our Chetek, WI plant's materials, including markets, shipping and receiving and raw stock to support sales forecast, target inventories and plant production activities. This role will report to the Value Stream Manager.

Scope/ Supervision and Interaction

Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to managing personnel in material handling areas. Coordinates with the Plant Manager, Plant Supervisors, Production Scheduler, and other plant personnel to attain delivery, cost and quality of service objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory relating to records, tracking of materials, changing business activity, quality of materials and stocking levels.
  • Utilize and maintain PFEP (plan for every part) to track inventory and material flow.
  • Accountable for location materials metrics and Standards of Performance.
  • Actively participates with plant management to resolve conflicts from unpredictable variances affecting the master schedule (changing priorities, engineering changes, material shortages, scrap/repairs, labor shortages, machine availability).
  • Ensure the location's material management policies are consistent with the inventory control objectives of the corporation.
  • Provide professional development for all team members. Explain and support company policies and procedures.
  • Actively support and implement lean principles.
  • Supervise employees engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and in preparing items for shipment.
  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Prepares daily management reports.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
  • Studies shipping notices, bill of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  • Fosters positive working relationships and responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relations matters.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in inventory management or production control.
  • 4-year college degree in business, engineering, or materials management required with certification in supply chain management preferred: APICS.
  • 1-3 years of team leadership experience.
  • Aptitude to manage by influence not only by hierarchy.
  • Must demonstrate a history of team building and change management leadership in a lean environment.
  • Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities.
  • Must have advanced computer skills and the ability to manipulate, analyze, and present data in multiple electronic formats.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
  • Must be an innovator and embrace lean enterprises principles and practices.
  • Proven track record of Lean implementation and/or management of continuous improvement activities.
  • A demonstrated ability of meeting or exceeding goals.
