Position Overview




Essential Job Duties
The Soil Microbiology & Ecology research group is dedicated to advancing fundamental scientific understanding of soil processes and translating that knowledge into practical, science-based solutions that support sustainable agricultural systems and environmental stewardship. The group integrates laboratory experimentation, field research, and applied soil management strategies to address challenges related to soil health, carbon cycling, and ecosystem resilience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The group seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to lead and support interdisciplinary research focused on optimizing biochar management strategies to enhance soil organic matter dynamics and overall soil health.
  • The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will design and conduct laboratory-based and small-scale field experiments to evaluate the effects of biochar on soil carbon stabilization, microbial processes, and soil physical and chemical properties.

Other Work/Responsibilities
Collaborating with other postdocs and graduate students, and maintaining a collegial working environment

  • Years of training or working experience in the soil carbon cycle
  • Comprehensive knowledge about soil carbon and nutrient processes
  • Advanced statistical skills such as multivariate analysis, non-parametric methods, and predictive modeling
  • Able to acquire new knowledge and skills quickly


Required License or Certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in collaborative research teams.
