The Department of Psychiatry and Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking a dedicated and accomplished, non-tenured, Research Professor (rank commensurate with experience) and Director of Childhood Hearing Research to join our faculty and lead an innovative, translational research program focused on hearing, neurodevelopment, and early childhood outcomes. The successful candidate will drive the strategic expansion of pediatric audiology research at IJR by integrating developmental neuroscience, child language acquisition, and early sensory processing within community-engaged and equity-centered clinical science frameworks. This position will play a central role in building sustainable federal research funding streams and strengthening cross-disciplinary collaborations across UIC's health sciences, engineering, and education campuses. The applicant must hold a terminal degree (MD, DO, PhD, AuD/PhD, ScD or equivalent degree) in Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Audiology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field. At least 5 years of postdoctoral or equivalent childhood hearing science, auditory processing, or neurodevelopmental research experience are required, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in interdisciplinary research, demonstrating success in securing competitive extramural funding (e.g., NIH, NSF, foundations), and evidence of effective collaboration. The Institute for Juvenile Research has been a leader in clinical care, education, and research focused on child and adolescent mental health since 1909. IJR is a leading component of UIC Psychiatry, which is one of the largest Psychiatry departments in the Midwest. We are also one of the top-ranked teaching departments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the largest medical school in the country, with both preclinical and clinical teaching and mentoring opportunities. Our clinical services focus on diverse and vulnerable patients, serving predominantly minority and economically underserved populations on the South and West Sides of Chicago.
