Position Overview looking for a National Sales Manager for their Test & Measurement division in West Warwick, RI. This is a player-coach role managing a network of external manufacturer's reps across North America while also doing hands-on technical sales work. The Real Job This isn't a traditional sales manager role. It's a hybrid position where you're managing external channel partners (manufacturer's reps), doing product demos, qualifying leads, supporting the inside sales team, AND contributing to product management discussions. You need to be comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small team environment (6-10 people internally). The manufacturer's reps are the key - they represent 10-12 different product lines, and might not be in their top 6 revenue generators. Your job is to keep top of mind, motivate them to push the products, and support them when they need technical expertise to close deals. These reps know about 50-60% of the product capabilities - you need to fill in the gaps and be the technical expert when needed. What Success Looks Like First 90 days: Strong grasp of the product line (what it does, where it's used, why customers need it) and established relationships with all the manufacturer's reps. You should be comfortable enough with the products to start implementing sales initiatives. First year: Year-over-year revenue growth. They just launched a new product that's meant to replace their widely-used legacy product and open new market opportunities - driving adoption of that is a key priority. Technical Requirements (Flexible But Important) They want an engineering degree (electrical or industrial preferred, but mechanical or other disciplines work too). The key is being able to have credible conversations with engineers and technicians about things like voltage, current, power systems. You don't need to be an expert, but you need enough foundation to understand whether a product will work for a customer's application. Their customers are electrical engineers, electronics technicians, and electricians at places like power plants and defense contractors. Sales Experience Requirements 3-5 years selling technical products. They need someone who understands the full sales cycle and has experience managing or working with channel partners/manufacturer's reps. This channel management piece is critical - if someone doesn't have that experience, they're going to struggle. They're NOT looking for someone who's just done inside sales or SDR work. This person needs to have carried quota, closed deals, and ideally worked with external partners before. Travel & Location Based in West Warwick, RI. Travel is under 30% - mostly for trade shows and key account visits with manufacturer's reps. They need someone who can take voice of customer feedback and translate it into product enhancements or new product ideas. Forecasting and Pipeline Management: They need to consolidate forecasts from all the manufacturer's reps and maintain accurate monthly forecasts. So experience with sales forecasting, pipeline management, and working in a CRM to track opportunities is important. They mentioned Salesforce and NetSuite specifically. Training and Enablement: This person provides ongoing product training for the sales reps. So they need to be comfortable teaching, creating training materials, and enabling partners. That's different than just managing them. Demo Skills: They're doing on-site and web-based product demonstrations. So they need to be comfortable presenting technical products, handling objections, and showcasing capabilities in both live and virtual settings. Trade Show Experience: They coordinate and exhibit at trade shows.
