POSITION SUMMARY:

The Plant Manager has total responsibility for the performance of the plant and quarry locations. Accountable for all plant and quarry operations with overall responsibility for plant/quarry safety performance, production, maintenance, quality, compliance, financial performance / cost control as well as all other production-related activities of the plants/quarries. The plant manager must be a take-charge person that can handle the demands of the operation and continually balance the competing needs of maintenance and production. They must also possess the skills needed to develop a team to manage the plant in the most effective way.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

1. Ensure the most safe, efficient, and economical operation of the plant

  • Lead and manage the plant/quarry in a manner consistent with the vision of LNA
  • Lead and manage the output of the plant/quarry in a way that maximizes reserves and efficiently utilizes all plant assets
  • Establish targets and priorities for the plant/quarry to ensure consistent performance around all KPI's (production, maintenance, quality, delivery, and cost)
  • Responsible for the establishment of objectives at the plant/quarry consistent with Company and Corporate objectives; the development and the implementation of a strategic plan to meet the objectives; and the monthly and annual review of objective results.

2. Champion plant/quarry and community communications

  • Communicate effectively with all employees on all levels
  • Clearly establish and communicate the vision for the plant/quarry
  • Serves as the Company's representative or designates a representative from the plant to serve as a representative in all areas related to the business community, the industry, the surrounding community; the news media and with the local government.

3. Ensure consistent product and process quality

  • Timely response to customer demands
  • Establish and monitor overall plant/quarry performance for production and quality standards
  • Insures that all products produced at the plant and shipped to customers from the plant meet quality and customer requirements.
  • Coordinates with Sales, Technical/Quality, Mining, Customer Service, and Management to assess priorities and production plans and schedules to meet customer orders and shipments for the plants and quarry operations.

4. Budgeting (Preparation, Execution and Control)

  • Develop and control profits, plans and budget
  • Prepare initial capital project requests consistent with the operating and maintenance needs of the plant/quarry
  • Follows spares management best practices.
  • Monitors manpower utilization at the plant/quarry and reviews for approval all requests for increases in the workforce.

5. Leadership/Teamwork and Team Development

  • Delegates authority to key team members in safety, finance, production, maintenance, processing, quality control, production control, shipping, and other related operations and administrative functions.
  • Coordinate plant activities through planning with other members of the plant management team to ensure plant objectives are met in an effective and efficient manner
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to accomplish plant/quarry goals and objectives.
  • Provide direction, development, encourage collaboration, and leadership to all plant/quarry staff members
  • Be a positive leader that encourages cross-functional communication between the teams.
  • Track Key Performance indicators to measure progress of goals.
  • Provide feedback to direct reports on daily projects.
  • Establish processes for SAP including training of team members.
  • Good public speaking skills. Must be able to create and communicate a power point presentation to the workforce with confidence concerning the state of the business.

6. Safety

  • Drive positive safety culture. Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, environmental, continuous improvement standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate environmental and safety regulatory leadership.
  • Must comply with company, state, and governmental health, safety, &
  • environmental rules and regulations

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Proven leadership, management and supervisory experience on all levels are required.
  • Knowledge of minerals processing specifically clay minerals
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to lead 5-Why activities.
  • Proven track record of increasing responsibility and increasing results is required
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of salaried and hourly personnel and to train and develop an effective workforce.
  • Training and experience leading Lean and/or Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement in solving difficult problems is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and meeting all required deadlines as forth by leadership
  • Knowledge of budget process is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and the desire to following all established procedures are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on operations compliance desired
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software. Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant/quarry locations.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in an office environment, mining, clay, and mineral processing environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold temperatures, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking on uneven surfaces, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel up to 20% as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Geology, Chemical, Mechanical or other Engineering disciplines is highly desired or equivalent work experience in the field.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree in relevant / related field

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have at least seven to ten years previous leadership experience in a fast-paced mining and/or heavy manufacturing, construction, environments. Previous clay, minerals, limestone, chemical, cement processing experience is highly desired. Solid understanding of cost accounting principles and financial statements, including P&L is required.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Ten (10) plus years of leadership experience in an industrial minerals/clay experience. Related Industries having worked in the following or comparable previous roles: Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, Mine/Quarry Manager, and/or Quality Manager
