The AI Systems team develops solutions that help traditional computer systems work with new AI capabilities.The team works with product and service teams to apply these solutions across Experiences & Devices (E&D). We tackle some of the most critical AI challenges helping Microsoft's products and services become smarter, more secure, efficient, and delightful.

As aSenior Software Engineerin the AI Systems team, you will be formulating design patterns and algorithms to solve novel problems in the AI transformation, creating prototypes to demonstrate new scenarios, architecting solutions to integrate with existing products and services, and help deliver new AI enabled experiences in product and services across E&D.You will work with teams spanning Windows, Office, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Teams, Edge, and more.This role offers opportunities to collaborate with technical leaders across Microsoft, directly influencing AI decisions that shape the future of our products. You will sharpen your AI expertise as we refine, improve, and scale Microsoft's innovations.

  • Working with codebaseacross all partner teamsto buildprototypesdemonstratingnew experiences using our innovation

  • Work withpartner teams to alignscenarios andtechnical direction with business goals

  • Participate/lead v-teams to develop andexecuteengineering plans

  • Write extensible, maintainable, well-tested, secure, and performant code

  • Usedebugging tools tovalidateassumptions and improve quality.

  • Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks

Qualifications

RequiredQualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Proven ability to independently drive changes with cross-team dependencies and ambiguous business requirements.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of agent-based systems, distributed computing, or autonomous software design.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and integration into agent workflows.
  • Experience in training/fine-tuning AI models
  • Experience contributing to and maintaining open-source projects
  • Experience with cloud-native development and deployment (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • An intellectual curiosity and passion about learningnew technologies

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
