The Mission of the San Diego Supercomputer Center is to translate innovation into practice. SDSC presently operates multiple large HPC systems ranging from a 120k x86 CPU core general purpose system to a system explicitly designed for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and a nationally distributed system open for all of academia to integrate with. SDSC has three geographic scopes, a national scope supporting cyberinfrastructure for the entire US research and education community, a California scope with a special focus on convergence research that addresses the three dominant threats to CA: Drought, Fire, Earthquakes, and a campus scope focusing on advancing the global impact of SDSC by advancing the research objectives of the UC San Diego faculty, researchers, and students. At SDSC, the Cyberinfrastructure and Convergence Research and Education (CI-CORE) Division combines broad expertise in cyberinfrastructure with deep, domain specific expertise in AI-enabled science to build use-inspired solutions to grand societal challenges at scale with partners in research communities, practical communities, and industry. The Division is committed to providing online, post-doctoral, and experiential education opportunities with a focus on broadening participation for underrepresented groups.

The Product Development Professional will use their skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of product / service development practices to resolve a wide range of issues. The incumbent will possess the ability to manage the development of products / services / enhancements of diverse scope, size, impact and budget and demonstrate sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to design, financial, marketing, or administrative problems.

Additionally, they will engage users, domain scientists, and funders with products to improve and develop scalable computing and software solutions to emerging, complex social problems such as wildfire prediction products. Identifies and appraises viewpoints and needs of a variety of stakeholders to inform product performance and planning. They will also discuss technical specifications and processes involved with lab scientists, observes demonstrations in the field, and interacts with users and funders.

The incumbent will also define improvements and future directions for products and research and scan the market for organizations providing related products and services, as well as identify, synthesize, and share best practice learnings. They will actively promote and lead enhancements to services/products based on learnings and generate both technical and lay progress reports, and creates multi-media outputs designed to contextualize and explain the product to a variety of stakeholders.

This role will demonstrate a deep understanding of product customization/configuration and may work on integration with other software systems in order to support the organization. The position will conduct research to stay abreast of current updates on the product, analyze data to inform decision making and will prepare detailed specifications for new projects with timelines, budgets, scope of work and requirements.

The incumbent will create professional media and outreach documents to strategically represent the lab and its achievements. In collaboration with lab leadership, they will use scientific understanding of computing processes and involvement in project work streams to identify major scientific progress. Teams and projects will span the substantive teams of the lab, bringing together insights that translate science and lab achievement to scientific, lay, and bureaucratic audiences.

• Proven experience with dynamic science communication and experiential learning initiatives in societal computing.

• Demonstrated experience creating and showcasing technology through case studies, videos and interactive platforms.

• Demonstrated experience working with data and domain and computer scientists as well as non-expert audiences.

• Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's need and the success of a desired product, service and enhancement.

• Strong written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation, reports and specifications.
