Title: Senior Lecturer/Associate Dean Executive Area: Academic Affairs College/School/MBU: Other Academic Units Department: Commonwealth Honors College Work Location: Amherst Schedule: Full Time Work Arrangement: Hybrid Job Summary This is a 12-month senior lecturer position in Commonwealth Honors College. The position reports directly to the Dean of Commonwealth Honors College and requires a great deal of coordination and collaboration within CHC and other university schools/colleges, departments, and programs. The position will support the academic oversight of CHC and work in conjunction with college leadership on faculty development and student success. Essential Functions In collaboration with the Dean, oversee faculty development and pedagogical initiatives and workshops of CHC lecturer faculty, joint faculty, and faculty engaged with the honors experience, especially honors thesis supervision.
Participate in various College programmatic initiatives and teams, such as the Honors Thesis Planning Committee, the Data Sharing Team, Unit Directors, and others.
In collaboration with the Dean and college leadership, manage and monitor faculty affairs, including mentoring and supervising instructional faculty members, monitoring performance, addressing student conflicts, and supporting faculty personnel actions, as needed.
Collaborate with college leadership on the academic oversight and assessment, development, and management of the Honors College academic experience, including students' ability to complete the curriculum and Honors Thesis requirement.
Collaborate with college leadership and college in programmatic and strategic planning, including participating in winter and summer retreats.
Lead efforts in collaboration with the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Success, to engage with departments regarding their Honor course offerings, including colloquia and Honors Thesis supervision.
Collaborate with departmental faculty members who are designated as the Honors Program Director (HPD) to coordinate with honors students and approve independent studies courses and thesis proposals.
Oversee and coordinate meetings and trainings for Honors Program Directors (HPDs) across campus to continue to build shared understanding of the College's mission, vision, and values, and a place to share pedagogical best practices.
Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Success in continuing the collaborative relationships between CHC advising and Honors Program Directors.
Chair the Academic Standards Committee (ASC) and approval of proposals as well as oversee proposals review process. Also, lead, recruit members, and organize regular meetings and trainings for the ASC.
Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Success to supervise various staff positions across college units, especially the Academic Administrative Assistant and the CHC Writing Coach.
On behalf of the College, serve on various university councils and committees, especially the Curriculum and Policy Committee, Commonwealth Honors College Council, the Faculty Senate Undergraduate Education Council, OFD Advisory Committee, FLEX Ed Committee, Research Administration Advisory Board, Faculty Senate Council on Public Engagement and Outreach (FSCPEO), and others TBD, as needed.
Oversee instructional Equity Action Planning of the CHC lecturer faculty and EEP for the College as well as other university level initiatives.
Engage and collaborate with the Terrance Murray Endowed Professor on project development, feedback and final report.
Represent CHC and participate in Commonwealth Honors Program meetings within the state, the National Honors Council and other academic organizations, as needed.
Teach the Junior Year Experience honors course or a similar course, once a year.
In collaboration with the Dean, oversee the College, as needed. Other Functions Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must be:
Non-tenure track faculty with the title of Senior Lecturer or Senior Lecturer II.
Experience:
Prior engagement with honors students and honors instruction.
Demonstrated success in advancing undergraduate academic programs and fostering student success.
Track record of leadership and relationship-building in working effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders and manage complex projects. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in academic administration at a research university. Additional Details This is an internal, on-campus recruitment. Eligibility is limited to current faculty members of the university. Working Conditions Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion. Work Schedule and Work Arrangement Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Salary Information UMass Amherst expects to pay within an approximate range between $130,000 and $160,000 for this position.
