GFT is seeking a Assistant Resident Engineer to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY. This role requires regular attendance in New York, NY.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will build your career in construction services with a clear path toward project management. You will support the removal and replacement of aging underground fuel storage tanks that serve critical public agencies, including NYCDEP, FDNY, and DSNY. These facilities power essential city operations, from fire response vehicles to sanitation fleets.

In this role, you will work on complex tank removal and replacement projects involving gasoline and diesel storage systems located within active municipal facilities and large vehicle garages. You will gain hands-on experience coordinating field activities, supporting compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and ensuring construction quality on projects that directly impact public safety and infrastructure.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Plan and support environmental investigation and remediation activities in the field and office
  • Collect groundwater, soil, and soil vapor samples using established procedures
  • Support site investigations and inspections at regulated facilities to evaluate environmental compliance
  • Review environmental regulations and maintain working knowledge of environmental programs and best practices
  • Prepare technical documents such as investigation reports, monitoring reports, remediation summaries, project proposals, and cost estimates
  • Prepare inspection reports and recommend follow-up or corrective actions as needed
  • Assist with project budgeting and track costs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide technical support related to compliance activities, audits, or enforcement matters
  • Track compliance commitments and coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders to address technical or schedule issues
  • Support coordination with regulatory agencies, project partners, and community stakeholders on environmental topics
Education | Experience:

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of environmental investigation, remediation, inspection, or compliance experience
  • Experience with field sampling programs and environmental monitoring activities
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance frameworks
  • Experience preparing technical reports, project documentation, and cost estimates
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Experience with environmental data management or reporting systems preferred
  • OSHA 10 or higher
  • A valid drivers license.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compensation:
The range for this position is salary range is $85,000 - $104,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
