Assistant Project Manager (Quality)
SUMMARY
Mortenson is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (Quality) who will focus on ensuring projects meet the highest standards of workmanship, compliance, and performance throughout the full construction lifecycle. This role requires strong collaboration across project teams, trade partners, and stakeholders in a fastpaced, continuously evolving environment.
The ideal candidate is detaildriven, proactive, and highly organized, with the ability to anticipate quality risks, identify issues early, and support the team in implementing corrective actions. This position partners closely with the Project Manager and onsite leadership to uphold Mortenson's quality expectations from preconstruction through final client acceptance, while also helping mentor and guide field engineers and project engineers on quality processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quality Leadership & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain the project quality plan to ensure all work meets customer performance criteria, contract requirements, and Mortenson quality standards.

  • Monitor work in place for conformance with drawings, specifications, submittals, and installation requirements.

  • Support the team in identifying, documenting, and resolving quality issues, including nonconformance reports, punchlist items, and rework tracking.

  • Assist with performing and coordinating inspections, testing, and verification activities.

  • Ensure project documentation-submittals, test reports, commissioning records-is accurate, complete, and auditready.

Quality Leadership & Compliance

Project & Cost Management

  • Partner with Preconstruction on estimating, quality risk review, and schedule alignment.

  • Assist with cost control, financial forecasting, and qualityrelated budget tracking.

  • Support the project team with review and management of pay applications, change requests, qualityrelated claims, and associated project financial documentation.

Trade Partner & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Facilitate meetings focused on quality coordination, installation readiness, and issue resolution.

  • Coordinate quality requirements with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure installation excellence and compliance.

  • Lead or support subcontractor buyout discussions related to quality expectations, testing requirements, turnover deliverables, and scope alignment.


Design & Installation Coordination

  • Lead or assist with the 3D coordination process and collaborate with trade partners to resolve conflicts before work is performed.

  • Support the review of design documents to identify constructability and quality considerations prior to installation.


Commissioning & Turnover

  • Support turnover deliverables, including operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, training materials, and final quality documentation.

  • Assist in planning and managing the commissioning process, including startup activities, testing procedures, functional performance verification, and documentation closeout.


Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Help foster a culture of proactive issue escalation, continuous improvement, and accountability.

  • Support and guide Field Engineers and Project Engineers in learning and adhering to quality processes.


Additional Duties

  • Perform onsite PM responsibilities for smallscope efforts as needed.

  • Assist with drafting proposals, contract administration, and broader project management support tasks.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum five years of related construction experience; experience with MEP or technical projects preferred.

  • Strong understanding of construction quality requirements, inspection processes, and industry standards.

  • Highly detailoriented with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.

  • Familiarity with construction law, quality compliance, and general business practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management platforms, and webbased applications.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to interpret and uphold company policies.

  • Valid driver's license.

The base pay range for this role is $102,000 - $137,700 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
