Job Description:

The Production Manager II oversees and coordinates manufacturing operations to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, and on-time delivery. This role manages production planning, workforce performance, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering cross-functionally to meet business objectives, maintain compliance, and uphold safety standards.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee daily manufacturing operations, including workflow, assembly processes, production metrics, and issue resolution to meet production targets.
  • Lead and manage manufacturing supervisors and production staff through performance evaluations, coaching, training, and ongoing development.
  • Develop and execute production schedules and operational plans, monitoring KPIs, analyzing data trends, and reporting performance to senior management.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, engineering, and quality teams to ensure material availability, product standards, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong safety culture.
  • Manage departmental budgets, cost controls, and resource allocation within manufacturing operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including root cause analysis for quality or production issues, to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational reliability efforts.
  • Support strategic planning, capacity planning, and long-term manufacturing goals and growth.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, accountability, and effective communication across all production-related departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of manufacturing operations and business objectives.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Skills / Qualifications

  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • 5+ years of managing and supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Progressive responsibilities in operations and/or field service leadership, including operations or engineering department supervisor experience.
  • Experience leading teams to achieve continuous improvement goals using RCCA methodologies, Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured problem-solving and change management tools.
  • Ability to coordinate activities within functional responsibility and collaborate cross-functionally to achieve results.
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing processes for assembly, test, and integration of electromechanical subsystems and components.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and growing talent.
  • U.S. person status is required as this position supports an ITAR-compliant site.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills

  • Electronics assembly workmanship to IPC 610 Class 3; J-STD Space addendum preferred.
  • General knowledge of fabrication technologies: brazing, welding, machining, EDM, die bonding, vacuum processing, torquing, soldering/de-soldering, SMT/through-hole, box build, cabling.
  • Experience in staff or project roles such as Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality or Applications Engineering, Supply Chain, or similar.
  • Exposure to global manufacturing environments, outsourcing models, and distributed business operations.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) experience, including transitioning new product designs into production release (Milestone Lifecycle Process).
  • Ability to create and manage complex project schedules within Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems; proficiency with AX 2012 preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with materials planning processes, inventory management, and optimization approaches.

Travel Requirements

  • Negligible - up to 10% domestic; may increase based on multi-site responsibility.

Hours of Work / Work Schedule / Flex-time

  • Standard business hours, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., salaried position. Requires flexibility to support off-hour emergencies, meetings, and international time zones for staff collaboration and integration projects.

Candidates are required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3).     Benefits of working at Microchip

    The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $65,000 - $165,000.*

    *Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
