The City of Renton is seeking a motivated and hands-on Facilities Technician 1 to join our dedicated Public Works Department team. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Coursework in electrical theory or building trades.
- Minimum 3 years of increasingly responsible maintenance and construction experience in a variety of the building trades.
- Or 4 years of relevant education and experience.
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
- Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint-based records check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
- Driving to offsite locations to perform essential functions.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate with City employees and residents.
- Operate a variety of equipment, machinery and hand and power tools.
- Lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Work in awkward and/or confined spaces.
- Climb and work from ladders, climb stairs, good reflexes, eyesight, bending, stretching, and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to high voltage wires, hazardous materials, heights, and noise from equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a typical office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Noise level out in the field is moderately loud and noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
- May be required to participate in a standby or on-call rotation.
- Work nights, weekends, holidays, and City sponsored events as needed.

Recruitment Process: The screening process will include a review of minimum qualifications and applicants selected for an interview will be invited via email to self-schedule a time through the Government Jobs account. At minimum, this position will be subject to a standard criminal background check and professional reference check. This position requires driving and is also subject to a driving record check from the WA State Dept of Licensing (or other state equivalent). Driving records will be evaluated based on a points system depending on the infraction and severity. This position also requires accessing areas that contain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS). For that reason, this position is also subject to a national fingerprint-based records check.
