Overview

The Health Coach, Research Center engages eligible caregivers to create and maintain a culture of health in their personal lives. The Health Coach will be responsible for developing a collaborative health coaching relationship with each assigned caregiver. The coaches will be accountable for conducting a 10-session virtual intervention designed to assist the caregiver in the process of actively working towards better health by providing support, encouragement, and coaching. Uses motivational interviewing to engage and assist caregivers on their journey to better health.

What You Will Do

  • Conducts virtual health coaching sessions with eligible caregivers recruited from VNS Health homecare.

  • Completes all required project orientation and training to competently deliver the intervention as designed and maintain intervention fidelity.

  • Completes human subject CITI ethics training and maintain certification as required in research settings.

  • Conducts outreach to caregivers who are enrolled in the study to confirm their involvement, build rapport, and engage them to begin intervention implementation.

  • Assesses the social context, impact of illness on the caregiver, need for caregiving, attitudes, beliefs, motivation, past experiences, and problem-solving skills in a comprehensive way - to develop and implement a viable self-care plan.

  • Delivers the 10-session intervention as designed, applying motivational interviewing techniques to identify health, caregiving, and behavioral areas of concern.

  • Uses evidence-based coaching skills to work with caregivers to set health-related goals and develops and implements effective strategies to reach those goals.

  • Manages time effectively to ensure that all caregiver sessions are completed on a timely basis and documented according to protocol.

  • Maintains ongoing communication as needed with the caregivers to retain them in the study.

  • Implements established protocol systems to document caregiver needs and goals, self-reported data, behavioral outcomes, and administrative details of all assigned caregivers.

  • Relays any adverse caregiver issues/concerns to the Project Manager and provides follow-up as required.

  • Organizes and complies with all activities and systems necessary to ensure the timely and accurate reports needed to monitor study progress.

  • Maintains time management and administrative documents to submit timely requests for project-related expenses.

  • Maintains technical skills through appropriate training, as needed.

  • Attends project team meetings and demonstrates a willingness to learn and refine interaction approaches.

  • Assists the Project Manager in responding to internal and external audits and prepares reports, files, and documents - as required.

  • Recommends changes to increase efficiency and productivity.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Health Coach certification (e.g. Nurse Coach (NC-BC), Health & Wellness Nurse Coach (HWNC-BC), National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), or certification through The International Coaching Federation) required

  • Human subject research CITI certification (can be acquired) required

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Health-related field (e.g. Wellness, Exercise Physiology, Public Health, Health Science, Nutrition, or Health Promotion) required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five years in clinical practice with some experience related to cardiovascular care of older adults required

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds required

  • Excellent listening and interpersonal communication skills required

  • Willingness to accept flexibility in weekday working hours, as intervention sessions are based on the caregiver's availability required

  • Willingness to commit to staying with the project for an extended period to ensure consistency in coaching individual caregivers required

  • Comfort with technology and willingness to enhance technical skills as needed through appropriate training, seminars and conference attendance required

  • Experience in health coaching preferred

  • Experience in home health care preferred

  • Prior training in motivational interviewing preferred


Pay Range

USD $40.95 - USD $51.19 /Hr.
