Summary: The Financial Navigation Coordinator (FNC) is responsible for complex patient financial navigation including but not limited to insurance benefits investigation, estimate creation, point of service collections, and case management to help facilitate access to and provide continuity of care for financially complex patients. The Financial Navigation Coordinator achieves this by working with members of the Executive Administrative Executive Committee (EAEC), Managed care, clinic leadership, insurance, and otheradministrative personnel. Responsibilities: 1. Financial Management - Facilitates pre-service review of financially complex patients/referrals seeking scheduled or elective care and incoming inpatient transfers not subject to EMTALA. Patients in this cohort often have out of network insurance, non-North Carolina Resident, or International (non-US Citizen). 2. Financial and Clinical Clearance Committee - receive requests from clinics/departments/providers/transfer center for consideration of patient referrals for scheduled or elective services per policy. Review requests in detail, apply appropriate policy guidelines, complete complex financial review, and present cases to the multidisciplinary committee for consideration. Communicate terms of policies and payment expectation with prospective patients and clinical teams. 3. Patient Counseling and Financial Management - Upon committee decision, discuss insurance requirements and other applicable financial policies with patient and/or family members with emphasis on the cost of care. Advise patient of out-of-pocket liability, work with the providers to create complex estimates, coordinate wire funds transfers or other forms of payment, and facilitate single case agreements when applicable. 4. Policy Support - Implements and communicates revenue cycle health care system policies and procedures to employees, patients and their families. Serves as a resource for employees and management in the interpretation and application of a variety of policies and procedures. Monitors compliance with policies and procedures and makes recommendations for changes as appropriate. Provides education and training as needed on revenue cycle policies. 5. Report Management and Data Analytics - Maintains database of patient referrals including final committee outcome. Properly documents and flags patient accounts under review in the medical record. Reports data analytics on a regular basis to leadership and multidisciplinary committee. Advises committee on trends that may require further review.

Other information: Education Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience). Licensure/Certification Requirements: Professional Experience Requirements: * If a Bachelor's degree: Four (4) years of experience in health care operations, including two (2) years of experience with private and federal insurance programs. * If an Associate's degree: Eight (8) years of experience in health care operations, including two (2) years of experience with private and federal insurance programs. * If a High School diploma or GED: Twelve (12) years of experience in health care operations, including two (2) years of experience with private and federal insurance programs.
