Parker Meggitt Aerospace, a recent addition to Parker Hannifin, is a global leader in the Commercial and Military Aerospace markets, specializing in a wide range of products including fire and smoke detection systems, extinguishing systems, bleed air overheat detection systems, actuators, rudder pedal assemblies, pumps, fuel gauging systems, and high-temperature cables. Located in Simi Valley, CA, this site is within the Fire Safety & Power Systems Division (FSPSD) and is a key supplier in select energy markets, particularly in nuclear gas analyzers and nuclear containment vessel penetration cables. We work directly with some of the largest aerospace companies in the world, including Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, and Lockheed Martin, among others.

EHS SPECIALIST 3

JOB DESIGNATION:
The EHS Specialist 3 provides expertise in the development, implementation and management of effective Safety, Health and Environment programs/systems. Routinely analyzes hazardous situations and identifies alternative courses of action.

JOB CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the development, documentation, improvement, and audit of site environmental, health and safety systems to ensure conformance and effectiveness.
  • Determine plant environmental, safety, and health requirements and analyze compatibility with corporate practices.
  • Provides expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Health, Safety and Environmental programs/procedures
  • Performs audits and safety inspections of work environments, processes, and operations in compliance with government regulations and industry standards
  • Ensures all applicable registrations, permits, and licenses are in place and current;
  • Lead activities in support of Kaizen, Safety Star Point Teams (Safety Committee), Emergency Response Teams, and other project teams.
  • Participates in developing and implementing training programs for employees
  • Gathers data for the purpose of identifying, reducing, or eliminating sources of pollutants and/or hazards that affect the work environment and health of the employees
  • Ensure that best practices, incidents, near misses, etc., are communicated between facilities following established guidelines.
  • Assist with regulatory-required environmental reporting, including hazardous/residual waste, air emissions, wastewater, and others
  • Working knowledge of industry safety, OSHA, EPA, and other state-specific agency regulations and environmental system standards and their application to an industrial environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate environmental, health, and safety concepts, plans, and technical data.

Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s), and additional hours as necessary
  • Travel up to 20%

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's degree in environmental, health, and safety is preferred
  • Years of experience: minimum 5+ years of relevant Health, Safety, and Environment regulations/standards experience

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Professionally recognized safety or environmental certification (ASP, GSP, CSP, CIH, CHMM).
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training in accordance with 40 CFR 262.34.
  • DOT training in accordance with 49 CFR 172.700-704.
  • 40 hours initial and 8-hour refresher training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER).
  • ISO 14001 experience.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Benchmark Gensuite, HumanTech and/or other EHS-related software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools
