Job Summary

South Mountain Community College is seeking a dynamic and service-driven Technology Support Specialist to sustain and enhance the technology that supports teaching, learning, and campus operations.

This position provides comprehensive technical assistance for computer systems, networks, software, audiovisual technologies, and other specialized equipment. This role will assist users with installation, equipment moves, and troubleshooting. This role provides support virtually, over the phone, and onsite.

Essential Functions
  • 35% - Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and audiovisual issues. Provide mutli-tier technical support remotely, by phone, and on-site. Escalate complex issues to higher-level support when necessary.
  • 25% - User Support & Customer Service: Respond to help desk tickets and user inquiries. Guide end-users in resolving common technical challenges. Provide clear communication and follow-up to ensure satisfaction.
  • 20% - System & Equipment Installation, Configuration, and Moves: Install and configure computer systems, peripherals, and specialized equipment. Assist with workstation setups, equipment relocations, and upgrades. Ensure systems meet organizational standards and security policies.
  • 10% - Software & Application Support: Support installation, updates, and usage of enterprise applications. Troubleshoot compatibility and performance issues. Provide guidance to users on software best practices.
  • 5% - Audiovisual & Specialized Technology Support: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot AV equipment (classrooms, meeting rooms, events). Support specialized instructional or departmental technologies.
  • 5% - Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and asset changes. Contribute to knowledge base and user guides. Support training efforts for staff and end-users. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience with desktop user support or technical support for equipment, networks, systems, telecommunications, or technology security, appropriate to assignment. There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. An associate's degree or higher in an Information Technology-related field.
  2. Three years of experience providing onsite/in-person Desktop Support while working in an IT support role.
  3. Two years of experience supporting enterprise systems, including Active Directory, Office 365/Google Workspace, and ITSM systems.
  4. Proficiency in audiovisual technologies, such as classroom/meeting room systems and conferencing platforms.
  5. Current IT certification (e.g., A+, Network+, Microsoft, or ITIL).


Special Working Conditions

May require limited local travel.
