The HVAC Chiller Technician is responsible for installing, diagnosing, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and servicing a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and hydronic systems. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical expertise, experience with chilled water systems, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, repair, maintain, and service HVAC and hydronic equipment and systems.
  • Repair and maintain hot water system, chilled water systems ventilation units, and air conditioning units.
  • Service and maintain pumps, closed-loop and open-loop condenser water systems and chilled water systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot cooling towers, fluid coolers and other types of heat rejection equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, including centrifugal chillers.
  • Replace fans, belts, motors, gaskets, filters, compressors, and other mechanical components.
  • Install and adjust switches, gauges, thermostats, valves, tubing, transformers, pressure regulators, controllers, and related parts.
  • Descale tubing, cut and thread pipe, and make pipe and electrical connections.
  • Add refrigerants and oil; test for defective parts; perform electrical repairs related to HVAC and chiller systems.
  • Determine requirements for parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Estimate costs of repairs and equipment replacement.
  • Check and test new equipment installations.
  • Operate specialized machinery, tools, and equipment used in HVAC and hydronic system repair and maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in safe and orderly condition.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Completion of a 5-year Apprentice Program, Technical School degree, or equivalent journey-level experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.
  • Proficiency with light to medium tonnage systems (1-100 tons) and large tonnage systems (100+ tons).
  • Experience with hydronic systems, including pumps, chilled water systems, condenser water systems, and cooling towers.
  • Experience servicing air-cooled and water-cooled chillers (scroll, screw, recip, and centrifugal chiller).
  • CFC Universal Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of hydronic system operation and theory.
  • Experience with centrifugal chillers and large-capacity commercial/industrial systems.
  • Knowledge of air compressors and pneumatic controls.
  • Understanding of applicable state and local building codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency with manual and electrical tools used in HVAC trade.
  • Soldering/brazing skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Basic record-keeping skills.
