Overview
Veeco is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to lead advanced process development for As/P- (Arsenic Phosphide) based semiconductor materials and devices. This role requires deep technical expertise in IIIV epitaxy, handson MOCVD reactor operation, and the ability to drive innovation across multiple product development programs. You will work at the intersection of technology development, engineering collaboration, and customerfacing technical leadership-shaping future Veeco products and engaging directly with worldleading researchers and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of advanced MOCVD processes for GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) and InP (Indium phosphide) based applications including VCSELs, edgeemitting lasers, LEDs, photodetectors, multijunction solar cells, and RF devices.
- Characterize epitaxial films and device structures using physical, electrical, and optical diagnostics.
- Advance process and hardware technologies in collaboration with research teams.
- Define and execute DOEs to validate performance and guide decisions.
- Develop and refine process recipes and protocols for prototype testing and new product introduction.
- Apply statistical data analysis and Six Sigma methodologies.
Leadership & Influence
- Lead process development efforts within new product programs, ensuring alignment across hardware and process innovation.
- Serve as a technical authority in As/Pbased epitaxial growth and device physics.
- Author technical publications and application notes supporting sales and marketing.
- Participate in safety leadership through involvement in Environmental Health & Safety committees.
- Work independently with accountability for technical direction and outcomes.
CrossFunctional & External Collaboration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Field Support, and Technical Support teams.
- Engage directly with customers worldwide for training, consulting, troubleshooting, and support.
- Participate in design reviews and lifecycle planning.
- Collaborate with global researchers and engineers to guide industry innovation.
Qualifications
PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline and 3+ years of experience in epitaxial growth of compound semiconductor optoelectronic devices; or a Master's degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline and 6+ years of experience is required. 3+ years of experience in semiconductor materials characterization is a must.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Handson expertise with MOCVD equipment for As/P optoelectronic materials.
- Deep knowledge of compound semiconductor device physics, design, fabrication, and characterization. Process and application knowledge in AlGaInP- (Aluminum Gallium Indium Phosphide) based LEDs, triple junction solar cells, or InP DFB (Indium Phosphide Distributed Feedback) lasers is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.

Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $140,000-$178,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
