Job Summary

The Dental Center Director of Operation is in charge of oversight of the dental clinics, oversees regulatory compliance, safety and standards of care, and is responsible for the administrative practices relevant to the clinics. The incumbent is responsible for providing clinical operations leadership, fostering superior quality patient care, developing clinics strategic goals and direction, and providing for the recruitment and retention of the clinic personnel.

The Dental Center Director of Operations seeks to create a high level of coordination of care and customer service throughout all UCSF Dental Center services and access points, yielding positive patient, provider and employee satisfaction. In addition, this leadership position works to build strong and collaborative relationships with academic, clinical and research departments, assuring that the interests of all stakeholders within the UCSF School of Dentistry are incorporated into relevant strategic plans and operating objectives to maintain unity of purpose.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $183,100 - $274,600 (Annual Rate).

We provide comprehensive oral health care services with over 120,000 patient visits per year. UCSF Dental Center

UCSF Dental Center is a cohesive entity within the structure of UCSF's School of Dentistry. Its primary goal is to provide outstanding, seamless, patient-centered care. The Center also aims to provide cutting-edge clinical experiences and education to students; contain costs for patient care and generate resources to reinvest in UCSF Dental Center and the School of Dentistry. A majority of the Dental Center's clinical facilities are located at the Parnassus Campus, with affiliated clinics at Buchanan Dental Center and an additional presence at Mission Bay, and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. UCSF Dental Center's primary services include all advanced dental specialty programs, and the general dentistry and specialty faculty practices.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training
  • Minimum of 8 years of directly related experience
  • Previous general management experience in a complex, multi-faceted health care setting (7-10 years)
  • Previous (5+ years) experiences working with a physician group practice managing through influence and collaboration
  • Previous supervisory experience and experience managing human resource issues, particularly change management and union/labor relations
  • Strong clinic / center management experience, with progressive expertise in practice management, scheduling, customer-service methods, incident reporting, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, information technology, and the policies, principles, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and patient care workflows and processes
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
  • Experience in the areas of strategic planning, financial management, program development, quality improvement, facilities management and project management
  • Excellent skills in successfully managing clinic / center administration functions
  • Excellent and advanced managerial skills and human resources management knowledge, including staff deployment, resource utilization, budgeting and financial management, quality improvement, and program planning and implementation
  • Excellent and advanced communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff, management, and outside agencies, with the ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others
  • Skills to develop strategic plans, create benchmarks, integrate systems and fiscal management
