Overview
VTG is looking for an Agile System Engineer in Chantilly, VA. (Note: Contingent upon program award). Agile System Engineer I supports system engineering activities within an Agile delivery environment, assisting with requirements development, backlog grooming, and integration planning under senior supervision. Agile System Engineer II independently performs systems engineering functions within an Agile framework, bridging mission needs, technical requirements, and delivery execution. Agile System Engineer III provides technical leadership for systems engineering activities across Agile teams, ensuring mission alignment, architectural integrity, and delivery discipline.
What will you do?
Agile System Engineer I
- Support decomposition of mission and system requirements into Agile epics, features, and user stories
- Assist with requirements traceability (e.g., RTM) across backlog items, design artifacts, and test cases
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) as a systems engineering contributor
- Support system documentation including CONOPS, interface descriptions, and technical notes
- Coordinate with developers, testers, and product owners to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria
- Assist with integration and verification planning activities
Agile System Engineer II
- Lead decomposition of operational and system requirements into Agile features and user stories
- Maintain requirements traceability across backlog, architecture, and verification artifacts
- Collaborate with Product Owners to refine backlog priorities and acceptance criteria
- Support system design reviews, interface coordination, and integration planning
- Translate stakeholder needs into actionable technical requirements
- Support verification, validation, and system readiness activities
- Contribute to development of CONOPS, architecture artifacts, and system documentation
Agile System Engineer III
Lead end to end systems engineering activities within Agile delivery frameworks Define and manage system level requirements, dependencies, and technical risks Guide decomposition of complex mission needs into scalable Agile backlogs Serve as primary systems engineering interface to government stakeholders and technical leadership Ensure architectural alignment, interface consistency, and integration readiness Oversee requirements traceability, verification strategy, and system acceptance Mentor junior and mid level systems engineers Support program reviews, technical roadmaps, and long range planning
Do you have what it takes?
- TS/SCI with Poly Required
- Bachelor's Degree inSystems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Agile System Engineer I
- 1-4 years of systems engineering experience
- Preferred Qualifications: Exposure to Jira, Confluence, or similar Agile lifecycle tools, Internship or academic project experience in systems engineering or Agile delivery
Agile System Engineer II
- 5-9 years of systems engineering experience
- Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with system integration, data flows, and external interfaces
Agile certifications (CSM, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent)
Agile System Engineer III
- 10+ years of systems engineering experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with distributed or multi team Agile environments
Agile and/or systems engineering certifications (SAFe, INCOSE, CSEP, etc.)
