The Contribution You'll bring to this Role:

The Principal Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for supporting complex engineering initiatives and advancing product performance across the Chemical Safety Business Unit.

This role focuses on hands-on technical execution, structured problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration, with an emphasis on polymer-based product design and manufacturing. The Principal Engineer contributes to high-priority engineering efforts across selected product lines, partnering with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Product Management to deliver improvements in product performance, cost, and compliance.

This is an internal-facing role with no direct reports, operating through technical expertise and collaboration to support business objectives.

What You'll Do at Justrite:




  • Technical Contribution & Collaboration



    • Serve as a senior technical contributor, providing input and recommendations on engineering decisions.
    • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations to support robust product development.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on design direction, trade-offs, and execution plans.


    Targeted Problem Solving



    • Drive and support resolution of complex engineering issues, including product performance, manufacturability, and cost challenges.
    • Apply structured problem-solving methods (RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone) to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
    • Partner with Engineering and Quality to support CAPA execution and product improvements.


    Polymer Engineering Support



    • Provide technical expertise in polymer-based products and processes, including injection, blow, and rotational molding.
    • Support material selection, product validation, and performance optimization for durability, chemical resistance, and compliance.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing to improve process consistency and product quality.


    New Product Development (NPD)



    • Support NPD programs within a phase-gate development process, contributing to design, prototyping, and validation activities.
    • Translate product requirements into practical engineering solutions aligned with business needs.
    • Assist in ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, and compliance targets.


    Value Engineering (VAVE) & Cost Improvement



    • Lead discrete VAVE initiatives with defined scope, focusing on cost reduction and design simplification.
    • Support should-cost analysis, material optimization, and component standardization efforts.
    • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to implement cost improvements.


    Compliance & Product Integrity



    • Support interpretation and application of relevant standards (OSHA, NFPA, UL, ULC, FM) in product design.
    • Assist in development of test plans, validation activities, and technical documentation.
    • Ensure alignment with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.


    Manufacturing & Process Support



    • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to improve DFM/DFA and production processes.
    • Support development of tooling, fixtures, and process improvements for polymer and fabricated products.
    • Help ensure alignment between design intent and manufacturing execution.


    Engineering Best Practices



    • Contribute to improvement of engineering processes, documentation, and standards.
    • Support consistency in CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and change management.
    • Provide informal mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers.




Your Skills and Expertise:

To ensure your success from day one in this role, Justrite requires the following qualifications at a minimum:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).
  • 6-10 years of engineering experience in manufactured products.
  • Demonstrated experience with polymer product design and manufacturing processes (injection, blow, or rotational molding).
  • Experience in:
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) and engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety and regulatory standards


Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:



  • Experience with industrial safety or regulated products (chemical storage, containment, hazardous material handling).
  • Exposure to UL/FM certification processes.
  • Experience working across multiple product lines or cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems and engineering change processes.
  • Lean / continuous improvement experience (DFMEA, PFMEA, Kaizen).


Compensation:

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 to $150,000.

Actual base salaries will vary and may be above or below the recommended pay range based on factors such as but not limited to location, relevant experience and performance. Additionally, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan to enhance their overall total compensation package when Justrite Safety Group and their business units achieve annual business and financial targets.
