Early Works Construction Manager

Building on our past. Ready for the future.
Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts. We partner with customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their assets. We're bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.

Early Works Construction Manager

Large-scale infrastructure and energy developments begin long before major facilities and pipelines are installed. The early works phase establishes the physical and logistical foundation that allows complex projects to move forward safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Worley is seeking an experienced Early Works Construction Manager to lead critical pre-construction field activities supporting large, remote infrastructure developments. This role focuses on planning and executing early-stage construction scopes including gravel sourcing, access road construction, work pads, staging areas, and supporting civil infrastructure in challenging northern environments.

You will work closely with engineering, environmental, permitting, logistics, and project leadership teams to ensure that early works construction activities are delivered safely, responsibly, and in alignment with overall project execution strategies.

Purpose of the role

Play an integral role in establishing the physical groundwork that enables successful execution of major energy and infrastructure projects.

You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing early works construction activities including gravel development, road construction, site preparation, and pad development across remote project locations. These activities often represent the first field presence on a project and require strong technical understanding, disciplined planning, and collaborative leadership.

This role provides construction leadership within the early project execution phase, ensuring that enabling infrastructure is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with environmental, regulatory, and engineering requirements.

Core Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the planning and execution of early works construction scopes including gravel sourcing, access roads, construction pads, staging areas, and temporary infrastructure
  • Managing field construction activities in remote and environmentally sensitive regions, ensuring work is completed safely and in compliance with project standards
  • Coordinating closely with engineering teams to translate design packages into executable field construction plans
  • Overseeing contractor selection, mobilization, and performance for early works construction scopes
  • Managing field logistics including equipment mobilization, materials staging, and workforce planning in remote environments
  • Ensuring gravel development, extraction, and placement activities meet engineering specifications and environmental permit conditions
  • Supervising road construction activities including grading, drainage installation, subgrade preparation, and surface stabilization
  • Overseeing site preparation and pad development to support future construction phases and facility installations
  • Monitoring schedule performance and implementing corrective actions to maintain early works milestones
  • Coordinating with environmental and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with permits, mitigation requirements, and environmental management plans
  • Supporting project controls processes including cost tracking, schedule updates, and construction progress reporting
  • Maintaining strong collaboration with project management, procurement, logistics, and stakeholder engagement teams
  • Establishing a culture of safety, accountability, and field execution excellence among contractors and site teams

This role requires strong field leadership and the ability to make practical construction decisions in dynamic project environments.

What you'll bring to the role

You bring deep construction experience in remote and cold-region environments and understand the unique challenges associated with early infrastructure development in northern climates.

Key qualifications and capabilities include:

  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent field experience
  • 15+ years of construction experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, energy, or resource development projects
  • Demonstrated experience managing early works construction activities including gravel development, access roads, and construction pad preparation
  • Direct experience working on projects in Alaska or other northern or Arctic environments
  • Strong knowledge of gravel sourcing, borrow pit development, haul road construction, and site preparation techniques used in cold-region construction
  • Experience managing large earthworks scopes including grading, drainage, and ground stabilization
  • A practical understanding of permafrost conditions, seasonal construction constraints, and cold-region geotechnical considerations
  • Experience managing contractors performing heavy civil and earthworks construction activities
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and compliance requirements associated with gravel extraction and land disturbance
  • Proven ability to lead field teams in remote work environments while maintaining strong safety performance
  • Strong coordination skills with engineering, logistics, environmental, and project controls teams
  • The ability to anticipate field challenges and implement practical solutions that maintain schedule and safety performance

You are a construction leader who understands that early works execution sets the tone for the entire project. You bring strong field judgment, disciplined planning, and the ability to align contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders around clear construction objectives.

Feel the energy at Worley with access to a range of benefits including: paid-time off, holiday pay (usually 8 per year in the US), and eligibility to participate in the medical, life, dental, and vision insurance plans, as well as 401K plan.

If you are ready to lead early-phase construction activities that lay the foundation for major infrastructure development, and you bring deep experience delivering gravel, road, and site preparation work in northern environments, we invite you to explore this opportunity with Worley.
