Job Description
I. Purpose Manages Pre Press staff ensures that all crews work cohesively to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, record accurate departmental data and achieve maximum production with the best efficiency. II. Duties * Manages employees in the pre-press area including, mounters, plate makers, plate cylinder processors which includes monitoring and adjusting staffing levels in an efficient manner to meet production needs. * Encourage a positive and safe work environment within the pre-press staff as well as adjacent areas of interaction. * Review the performance of the department while developing continuous improvement efforts. * Works with Training Department to develop a skill set for the pre-press staff and ensure training needs are communicated with intent to maximize performance opportunities. * Interacts directly with maintenance supervision to keep equipment operating efficiently. * Assists Production Manager, and shift leaders as needed to ensure proper plates/ mount jobs are manufactured and delivered in a timely fashion. * Established and promotes high performance work teams throughout the organization in accordance with World Class Operations Management initiatives and promotes department participation. * Provide data that illustrates the performance of the department on a monthly and quarterly basis relating to key performance indicators. (i.e. waste, defects, uptime, labor cost, supply costs,) and recommend department changes. * Complete responsibility for managing inventory of pre-press supplies. Delegates duties assisting in ordering, organizing and inventorying supplies. * Exercises proper care and efficient use of supplies, tools, and equipment and insures pre-press employees do the same. * Informs departmental leadership personnel of anticipated downtime due to processing problems, i.e., plate problems, plate processing equipment, mounting equipment, maintenance/electrical problems, crew problems, etc. and provides updated status as significant changes occur. * Supports and follows all quality/ISO procedures. * Attends and participates in all manager/leader meetings. * Comply with all company health and safety procedures and initiatives as well as leading in a manner that encourages employees to do the same. * Completes all departmental employee communication requirements. * Reports and investigates near miss accidents, accidents and safety concerns. * Provides immediate care and arranges for care for injured employees. * Transports injured employees to medical facilities and ensures post-accident physicals are administered. * May be asked to travel in order to fulfill business needs. * Accepts and carries out other responsibilities of a critical or non-critical nature to maintain the company/facility and not limited to the pre-press department. III. Knowledge. 1. Requirements * Detailed knowledge of the pre-press equipment, process and operation from start of artwork to the finished plate and mount job. * Detailed knowledge of plate materials, sticky back tapes, press sleeves/cylinders and experience with their manufacturer. * Proficient in reading and understanding production orders. * Possesses good inter-personal skills. * Ability to train and supervise employees. * Completes and maintains all safety requirements, i.e. CPR, first aid, recordkeeping procedures, policies, practices etc. * Proficient in MicroSoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) * Must be able to work flexible hours to fulfill needs of the job/customer. * Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing clearly and decisively. * This position may require training such as RCRA/DOT/HACOM, which applies where hazardous materials are handled or shipped. 2. Sources * BS Degree in Industrial Technology or equivalent or a minimum of 3-5 years experience as a Printing Crew Leader * A minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experiences IV. Contacts 1. Internal * Interacts with management and plant employees on a daily basis. Communicates as needed with other departments, i.e. logistics, maintenance, customer service, extrusion, converting, etc. External * Communicates with vendors, contractors, customers, and personnel from other Bemis division. V. Responsibility This position has a great impact on company assets such as; plant personnel, plate material, sticky back tapes, plate making and mounting equipment changes to improve output or to reduce costs of raw material could greatly impact the cost of producing our product and increase profitability. VI. Essential Physical Requirements Frequent amount of time spend on production floor. Must be able to work in and around various conditions including fumes, heat, cold, grease/oil, chemicals, solvent and water based inks, dust, moving parts, noise and heights. Occasional time spent working at a computer in an office or conference room environment.
