DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher, you will provide vocational instruction to inmate students, specializing in custodial maintenance and repair. In this role, you will be responsible for adapting curriculum materials to align with individual student needs based on screening and placement assessment results. To ensure an effective educational experience, you will select and develop diverse teaching techniques tailored to the specific instructional levels of each learner. Your instruction will include classroom theory and hands-on shop training in the vocational areas of building trades, custodial maintenance and repair, and other closely related job skills. Additionally, you will assign and evaluate homework, develop and administer assessments to track student growth, and provide final evaluations for the general student body. Administratively, you will be tasked with accurately updating and maintaining inmate education records in strict accordance with policies. Furthermore, you will proactively monitor student behavior and establish clear classroom rules and procedures to foster a safe, professional, and productive learning environment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Building Trades/Custodial Maintenance and Repair. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.
Special Requirements:
  • You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must have eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
