Job Summary

This position serves as a seasoned and experienced research professional with a comprehensive understanding of advanced research software and programming techniques for the Department of Radiology. The incumbent will be responsible for leading innovative analytics projects in radiology imaging research at the request of the chair, CAO, and all unit managers. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in advanced analytics, statistical modeling, cross-disciplinary collaboration, data system modernization, policy and project development and administration, and should be able to independently perform the full range of responsibilities within the role. This position will deal with programs and proposals with a broad impact across the research program and be able to propose strategies, policies, processes, and resources while functioning with minimal oversight.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • All departmental required certifications and training should be obtained within 90 days from the date of hire.
  • All research personnel conducting human subjects research under the auspices of UC Davis must be certified via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program.
  • Completion of University of California Annual training as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree or extensive coursework in the sciences or closely related area or equivalent experience required.
  • Demonstrate experience with data management documentation, manipulation, exporting and analysis, including communication with external data sources.
  • Experience or training in working with data management tools and data capture systems such as relational databases and/or spreadsheets.
  • Experience with complex research programs and working with large datasets, including data query and auditing techniques.
  • Knowledge of public health data privacy standards, data integrity, and security.
  • Proficient in advanced analytics and statistical modeling using Python, R, and big data tools.
  • Skilled in managing database systems such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and REDCap.
  • Skills in system modernization, user story development, and workflow automation.
  • Skills in applying complex algorithms and data structure principles.
  • Expertise in executing and managing complex data science projects, supporting clinical research.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage frequent interruptions, establish priorities independently, anticipate job requirements, and organize workflow to effectively achieve timely progress on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced work environment; experienced in responding quickly to information requests, taking initiative, and collaborating effectively in team settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage tactfully and diplomatically with faculty, researchers, staff, and students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including supporting the development of scientific publications.
  • Thorough understanding of human subject protections and the regulations governing research.
  • Familiarity with biomedical research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to utilize common radiology and research related computer applications/systems - OnCore, PACS, mPower, Visage and new AI software as appropriate
  • Analytical/problem solving skills.

Department Overview

The Department of Radiology is a large academic and clinical department within the School of Medicine which is responsible for teaching and training of residents, medical students, and clinical fellows, as well as both basic and creative clinical scholarly investigations. Radiology maintains a substantial amount of research, both basic and clinical trials, and provides services for interdepartmental research studies.

Work Environment
