Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.

Boeing Wichita is seeking a Deputy Direct of Manufacturing Site Services to join their team in Wichita, KS. This Senior Manager role is the deputy to Manufacturing Site Services (MSS) for Boeing Wichita and is responsible to lead all activities related to strategic planning resulting in the reliability, and automation of manufacturing equipment in a large-scale, highly complex production environment. This role owns strategy, execution, and continuous improvement programs that maximize equipment availability, safety, product quality, and productivity while minimizing lifecycle cost and downtime. The position combines technical leadership, project and program management, people leadership, and cross-functional coordination across engineering, production, quality, and supply chain.


Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the plant-level maintenance and automation strategy aligned with corporate objectives, capacity plans, and capital investment roadmap
  • Drive resiliency of The Production System through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) best practices to minimize fire-fighting
  • Build a multidisciplinary team of maintenance, automation, controls, and reliability engineers, technicians, and contractors
  • Sponsor and deliver automation projects: process automation, robotics, vision systems, data integration, and MES/OT convergence
  • Assess current equipment portfolio for optimal cost effectiveness and sourcing strategies
  • Lead root cause analysis and major incident response around equipment failure; implement sustainable corrective actions and lessons learned
  • Enhance KPIs and dashboards for equipment availability (OEE), MTTR, MTBF, work backlog, wrench time, maintenance cost, and project ROI; report performance to senior leadership
  • Manage maintenance and automation budgets, CAPEX requests, and contractor/vendor relationships; ensure cost control and schedule adherence
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality standards; lead continuous improvement and standardized work for maintenance activities
  • Partner with IT to drive digitalization efforts for maintenance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support new product introductions, line reconfigurations, and process scale-up

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at our Wichita, KS site.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive managing machine maintenance and automation in a large scale, highly complex manufacturing environment with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing machine maintenance and automation projects
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance strategies (TPM/TPM II, RCM), predictive maintenance technologies, and CMMS (e.g., IBM Maximo, SAP PM)
  • Demonstrated success delivering capital automation projects and managing vendor/contractor partners
  • Excellent people leadership skills with experience managing multi-shift operations and unionized workforces
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; PMP or equivalent certification desirable
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Deep knowledge of Lean practices and/or Six Sigma and application to improve business results

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $136,000 - $184,000
